Power steering pulley, pump, or belt? Hmm. . .

So ever since I got my car, when I start it up in the morning and turn the wheel before the car has moved, I get a squeaking sound from the power steering system. If I turn it quick or put it on full lock in either direction it SCREECHES, like it is seizing.

Once the car is moving, this problem ceases to exist.

Any thoughts? And NO, this is my DD so I'm not doing a PS delete Thanks!

Sounds like your belts may be on the way out. try a new one.. alot cheaper than a new pump

Yeah mine use to screech on start up but not any more. My power steering pump wines like a supercharger. i'm pretty sure it's the puller tho.

Re: Power steering pulley, pump, or belt? Hmm. . .

If belt doesnt help the problem, then you could be getting an air leak somewhere in the system

If you don't wanna spend the $8 on a belt, try tightening it first.

Re: Power steering pulley, pump, or belt? Hmm. . .

Step 1) TIGHTEN your belt.

if screech persists...

Step 2) Buy new belt.

if screech persists (which I highly HIGHLY doubt it will).... we'll go from there.

Try replacing the belt and be sure to tension it correctly. Use a guage and not your thumb!

I replaced my power steering belt and the alternator belt and the screeching is gone. It worked for me so hopefully it works for you
