TDC Sensor

I was driving to work today, and I noticed the car's check engine was on, and the car would not go beyond 3K rpm. I went to Autozone and they read the code as P1361 TDC sensor.

Intuitively, it seems more like a transmission problem, but could a bad sensor be what is limiting my revs to 3K?

Re: TDC Sensor

Yep... happened to me. it's a fun one to change too. have to pull off the crank pulley, timing belt cover, balancer belt, cranshaft balancer pulley.....replace and re assemble. or use a h23 distributor and rewire it which i did. it isn't a tranny problem. trust me. i would know.

Re: TDC Sensor

Had the same issue found the tdc and ckp sensor for 20$ replaced while doing the timing belt. Not in limp mode anymore. Test the resistance between terminal and see if you get more than 1.5k or check if the wire is shorting. Mine had no resistance so it had to replaced. Good luck to you.

Re: TDC Sensor

The P1361 code is an intermittent TDC failure code, before buying a new sensor try resetting your ECU and seeing how long it takes for the code to come back. Try disconnecting the TDC sensor plug and cleaning it out, if that doesn't work then you will want to buy a new one.

Thanks. I'm going to reset the ECU today. I haven't noticed anything unusual under 3K RPM. Would you say it's safe to drive it with a bad sensor, for a week or two?

Re: TDC Sensor

Im having the same issue... after i reset ecu i can drive about 15 min. Or so then the car will either just shut off while at a low rpm or start backfiring and running like total dog turd.... and then die. My ludes sittin in my yard right now... tryin to figure out my low compression problem as well.
