Lost My Key

I lost the black key to my car. I've looked for days and it's no where to be found. I never got the red key either. Is there anyway I can get a new black key? I have the spare for now but I want another key just in case.

Re: Lost My Key

You can make a cop to open up your car but one that actually starts the car i don't know. I think the red key is required.

Your best bet is to just call Honda and see what they say.

Re: Lost My Key

as long as you have one of the keys, they should be able to make a copy

Re: Lost My Key

Only some Honda dealerships have the proper tool/scanner to make a copy of the black key's chip or whatever it is. You can give your local dealer a shot and see if they can do it or recommend another local dealer that can.

They can cut you a key either way, but it's that programing tool thats required to copy the code that your red key is usually used for.

Re: Lost My Key

When I bought my prelude, I only got one black key. Took it to the dealer and they made me a new one for $30. You shouldn't need the red one to get a new key made.

Not all dealerships have the same code reader/scanner/tool or whatever it is to copy the code in the black key, which is why most dealers say they need the red key.

all dealerships can copy a key to open the doors etc - but need the red key in order to copy the code for the immobilizer system. Only the dealerships with a certain reader can copy black keys without the red key.

there's a full thread on it over on pp...

This is the 28492718359282613748593981723749538721849 Thread on lost keys. We should have a sticky on programming keys and a sticky on how not to lose any keys.

This happens way too much on this forum. WAY TOOOOO MUUUUCH!

Re: Lost My Key

i locked my key in the car about a week ago and had to bust out the window to get the car open. well i learned my lesson. i replaced my broken window and went to home depot and made 2 spare keys and bought a magnetic box that holds a key in it and sticks to anywhere under your car. now one key is at home one is on my key chain and one is under the car somewhere ;)

I did a search and went to like to 7th page and gave up. But I agree, a sticky would be nice.

Re: Lost My Key

I've seen at walmart they have certain keys that have the chip in there that you can get your key copied and it will work to turn on the engine. I've never tried it since they didn't have Prelude keys at my walmart.

^Yeah but if you have your key I think it's the smartest thing to make a copy saves further headaches lol.
