:( Selling my 5th Gen. How much would you think its worth

Hey everyone, Iím looking into selling my 5th gen prelude and I was rather hoping if you guys could help me out with finding the value of the girl as she sits. Reason behind me selling her is I am a graduate looking into getting a Masters, if not a Doctorates, and Iím looking for a more of a practical car with 4 doors and a little more headroom considering that I have grown during my time in college to 6'2". My mother insisted in purchasing a new Passat for me but since I am the type who would much rather earn his money I told her that I would use my savings and sell the lude.

The 1999 prelude is a fun little car (and this quote is coming from a guy who is mostly into muscle cars), unfortunately itís an auto with a ludicrously slow SS transition timing transmission.

Anyway, needless to say what worries me however is the fact that the car has a rebuild title. The first owner totaled it, the second owner rebuilt it, so which in turns makes me the third owner. The carÖis by no stretch of the word aesthetic and Iíve included many pics to support my point. Moreover, considering the car was totaled and has a radiator support thatís welded on there rather than bolted on indicates to me the severity of the accident. Not only that but the old girl is missing a few things like for instance a rearview mirror, washer fluid reservoir, and front turn indicators.

Just by reading this description it may sound like the girl has been through hell and back, and she has , and Iíve come to believe that I am probably the only owner who has taken care of her Ė timely fully synthetic oil changes, fuel filter, Honda tranny oil, brake fluid, even open crank ventilation set-ups to prevent any oil consumption considering Hondas are prominent with consuming oil. And every 4-6 months I would clean the interior until itís spotless to a point where I take out the seats, center consoles, or what have you .

So if you guys could kindly look at the pics I have provided and help me estimate how much the lude is worth, that would be much appreciated. Some of my buddies who are tuners (in programming and mechanical enhancement as well) say that the car is worth $5k as it sits with the 130k miles while others say $4500. I paid $4k when it only had 125k miles (knowing the issues it had but couldnít turn down a lude when I found one in my budget); but what the car has been through is making me think that those prices are rather an overestimate.

How some are into the complex bumper covers/body kits like the one I have on, I will never know . To be quite frank, the original bumper covers with maybe an attached lip is more appealing than something that looks like as if it came out of the movie Fast and Furious. Even the less complex aftermarket bumper covers look very attractive on the car. What you are seeing now is the work of the second owner who supposedly had a son who was a fan of the movies. With the original color being white the paint job is rather cheap - has not been wet sanded, light clear coat, has not been painted in a well ventilated area, dust and bits of grass would stick to the paint. All in all his son did a no no and evidently his father put the car up for sale. If I had the money believe me I would have loved to fixed her up, rebuild the engine, give her what she deserves for being a fighter but with college I had no choice but to let her be. I'm hoping the next buyer will do the honor of rebuilding her.

You can see that the quarter pannel, front bumper, hood, and headlights aren't flush as they should be.

This pic below shows the end of the radiator support sticking out as does the next pic.

You can see the original color of the radiator support is red as I scrubbed away the paint to get a better ground for the battery.

The headrests I do have but taken out; again because of my height it helps me to get a clear rear view.

yikes. if youre serious about selling, i would throw the stock body panels back on
edit: i wouldn't say its worth 5k as it sits... if i was looking to buy I would offer you 2500 tops just because of the salvage title, auto tranny and poor fitting body kit. just my $.02

No kidding. Honestly I dont understand why people do these things to their cars. But i bought it because like i had mentioned before it was a prelude and the engine was in great condition so despite the cosmetic mess, i was into driving it. However, now I am stuck and I do not do not want my mom throwing money just so i could have a new car. I was thinking maybe selling it as a project car...

What the previous owners thought was probably in the area of 'what we put into it we get out' which isn't true. The more mods you put into a car will really put the value into a steeper drop. With a car like this I would probably pay 2700-2850 for, because of the rebuilt title and all the 'mods'. Modifications are customized for the owner, not the people buying it ya know? It's just unfortunate but you can't do much about it. Good luck with the sell.

I would say anywhere from $3500-$4500 tops is what you will get for it considering its an Auto and it has a bad paint job and body kit.

True. If i find that i will have enough money to purchase the original bumper covers after purchasing the books i need for school, as well as getting a quote on having the radiator support properly mounted, i will have those replaced. As for the paint, I will borrow money from my mother (which is my last resort regarding my parents are already helping me pay for college) and by the end of the summer she should be looking bright a new. It sets me back as far as cost but who said financing was easy. Regardless, no matter the repairs it will still have a rebuilt title which kills the value But thanks for your input!

What's it worth? $2500. What can you get for it? $3500. $4000 if you get lucky.

You're looking at probably 3-4k tops. I sold mine last year for $5k with 200km (120k miles) and it was all original with no rust and manual tranny. Good luck man.

Aircraft remover, flat black paint. That color will Scare away any real prospects. Park it in walmart and say you vtec-ified it and some yahoo will buy it. Sorry you're in for a fight. GLWS.

Re: :( Selling my 5th Gen. How much would you think its worth

Honestly, parking it in a Walmart parking lot is a good idea. My friend sold a ****ty looking 00' EK with huge body damage in the front, 150k, super ricer and the hood and side panels we're a different shade. Guess how much he got for it? 7 grand. Super lucky. I was amazed, than he goes out and buys an SI clone, c'mon. lol w/e not the smartest friend.

Youre kidding! Yeah I will go ahead and give that a try on the weekends. Conveniently I live right by 2 walmarts (one of them a super center). But I'd say that your friend is one lucky guy, however, an SI clone...not a wise choice if I could say so myself. I am thinking if I restore the original paint and body that it would have a much higher chance of selling but if the radiator support ends up being the one thing that is preventing people from purchasing the car, I guess I'd have to repair it - not that it has a chance of falling off it just will not allow the bumper, fender, headlights, and hood seat flush together. But a really great idea, I hope I'm fortunate enough to come across someone who is interested in buying. Thanks man.

Re: :( Selling my 5th Gen. How much would you think its worth

Not kidding at all! Depending on where you live, well actually it doesn't really matter, but Walmart is prone to having little meet ups during the weekend. Don't get your hopes up, I know you're smarter than that but it may not happen. ;) It's too bad you can't keep your lude... it really is. But, you gotta do what you gotta do and yup, put the OEM skirts on also. Tell me the details in a couple of weeks and I could possibly come up with another idea? I know how tough it is to sell cars like these, uncle's dealership. Lol
