Need some quick help!

I have a hole in my air intake and I'm contributing this to my terrible gas mileage (250-270 miles) on a full tank.

I'm going to Hershey Park on Friday (long drive, great way to test out a new intake and see if that was the problem). I'm located in New Jersey and I need to find an intake. I don't mind building it myself but I want it to be as cheap as possible (not bad quality cheap) but I don't want to spend $100+.

$50-$60 max, is this possible? I appreciate any help!

Re: Need some quick help!

ebay has them for 50 with filter and all but i guess you could go to a parts store like napa advance auto or auto zone and get a flew intake pipe and stick a filter on it

Re: Need some quick help!

I would follow the above advice. Check out advanced and see what they have. You may be able to find a cheap intake, but if it's under $100, it's probably going to be garbage.

And I know advanced auto has those knock off K&N filters, Spectre I think they're called, you could price out one of those. If you went with a K&N filter that alone would cost you $50-60.

Bottom line, you will find out that if you want something good, it won't be cheap, and if you wan't something cheap, it won't be good. Especially when it comes to cars and car parts.

Re: Need some quick help!

PVC tubbing, and rubber joints from home depot. Just until you get the right part. Drill and grommet as many holes needed with 3/8 diameter. Very ghetto, will elininate your problem.

Re: Need some quick help!

I got one of those cheap filters for my 89 all trac corolla. It's helping my gas mileage out. But if it's for the lude I wouldn't go cheap.

Re: Need some quick help!

Flew pipe from advanced with a 3 in k&n filter. filter alone is 45 but you can use it on a new CAI or SRI

Re: Need some quick help!

Just get a cheap ebay CAI and buy a AEM filter. The intake tube itself is same wether it's brand name or ebay. And 250-270? Your lucky Im barely getting 190 with my bad o2 sensor :(

Re: Need some quick help!

250-270 is actually normal for a 5th gen or any H22 if thats what you have. Highway MPG might get up over 320 but thats about it. Good luck on your trip

Re: Need some quick help!

I honestly never even checked to see how much mileage i get out of a tank...never really think about it. plus i like my vtec so that probably hurts it

Re: Need some quick help!

Gottcha', thanks for the advice guys. I did a ton of research on the intake tubes but it seems all of them are pretty much similar. Minus some carbon coating or something to help with heat. The tube itself is whatever, the filter I was going to change out for a K&N filter but I just found this universal tube from K&N that I might get for my Prelude.

It fits the 01 Prelude and it's $10-$15 bucks so I might just order that.

I felt that 250-270 out of a tank was pretty eh considering I never even hit VTEC or go past 4 - 4.5k RPM's, I rarely hit 5k.

Universal tube from K&N...i don't like the sound of universal or it being that cheap from them because their intakes are usually in the $200 range
