Upper front strut bar problem

So I bought an Ebay upper front strut bar. I put in a best offer for 14 bucks and got accepted so I thought I'd try it out since it was only 14 bucks. Well It got here and I tried installing and ran into 3 problems.

First: This is on the drivers side and the ABS brake lines are kinda in the way Im able to bolt it up but when I do so it kinda pushes the lines to make room for the bracket. Is this fine leaving it like this? I read up and people say to cut to make room but how the hell am I suppose to cut that? lol.

Second: On the passenger side all these wires are in the way. I was able to unscrew that bracket and push it to the side to mount the bracket but now it's just sitting there rubbing up against my intake which would chip away the paint I put on it after a while. Where do you guys put them at??

Third: Overall the bar was too short and didn't seem to fit after struggling to make it fit I realized the damn thing isn't going to budge so I noticed I was able to unscrew the bar from the part that goes into the bracket. Is this normal? Is this how it's suppose to fit?

Please help Im regretting buying this crap but for 14 bucks It's not much a lost but I do want to make it work since I already have it.

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

don't let it rub those lines!!!! it will eventually wear through them. i don't care what anyone says. it will wear through them..bend them out of the way or put something in there so they don't touch...tuck the wires down in the bay more and take them off the bracket..far enough away from the intake....lastly yes that is normal and adjust that nut so it touches the bar

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

Yeah I had a feeling that would be a problem. I read up and people say those lines are too strong to bend and I really would hate to try and snap one of them and turn a 14 dollar project into something much more. What if I put some kind of soft object in between the bracket and lines? Like cut a black beer koozie zip tie it to the bracket to where the lines just rub on it and it's soft. Kinda ghetto lol but it won't be seen and if it does the job Im willing to do it. And the wires Im gonna play with them tomorrow and see how I can tuck them.

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

I found a way to tuck the passenger side wires.
How To: 5th gen wire tuck - basics - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums
All you need to do is unbolt 3 brackets cut 3 zip ties unclip a ac line and push it down and zip tie. Although he removed his cruise control I might have to see if me not removing it will interfere with any of that.

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

i'd prefer something thicker and less flexible but it'll work for a little...Best thing i can think of to put over those lines is plastic....something curved with some strength to it...but honestly i'd try to bend them out of the way a little bit. anything you put in there is going to wear down if it touches both pieces of metal. if it were me i'd bend them out the way a little and put something between them like plastic or something kinda softer so it wears away opposed to the lines. i took the intake off of my sister's integra because we're doing a engine swap and it was touching a brake line going to the abs...wore a hole right into the intake...looked like someone took a grinder to it and took grinded away the metal....i know what you can use..old piece of rad hose or in a pinch a vaccum line sliced in half for a little while till you can come up with something

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

Alright cool thanks. I don't mind replacing a koozie or something soft every so often Im always looking under my hood so it's not like It would go unchecked. But the rad hose sounds good I just gotta see if I have any. I do have some foam piping like this
http://www.adamcarolla.com/AHBlog/wp...insulation.jpg
Would that work if I zip tie it over the lines?

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

yeah it'll defintly work..i don't know how long it will last if you don't move the lines...if you move those lines a little bit then put that in there it shouldn't wear out at all..i'd still check it like twice a month.

Personally if it was me i wouldn't put anything in between them they way they are right now and expect it to last..just move them a little...you'll be thankful later. you won't break them as long as you just move them enough to clear and that's it

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

Yeah I'll try tomorrow what do I use to bend them? Pliers? But if they don't budge I'll just put the foam there and see how long it lasts, a month and I'll be happy but if I gotta be replacing torn up foam weekly Ill try to bend them again lol.

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

don't use pliers or anything metal. never use anything with edges on brake lines or any lines with over like 10 psi of pressure..i'd use my hands to be honest...either that or use pieces of wood and shim it away from the body with those....you'll have to bend a little past where you want them to sit because they will move back a little.

try not to bend them...try to make it more of a curve

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

it's really easy actually..just take it slow ndpull them away a little with a couple fingers...if you look in your first picture that top line has the outside coating taken off just from you putting that mount on there...nothing to worry about but just saying imagen every bump and hole you hit just working that line back and forth on the edge of the bracket

ooh it will be fine..just saying the more bumps and dips you hit driving the more it would rub...take care if it before you go anywhere. don't want it rubbing down the road..just bend them a little by hand and you will be fine...don't be afraid to pull a little..you ain't going to break them...you on need like a 1/4 of clearence between them and then use your cushion

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

hey i was thinking in that first picture there is a plastic piece that holds those 2 vac lines...just use that and put it around the lines and use a ziptie for the vac lines.

don't forget to tighten up those nuts on the bar

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

Where do you see that?? I was able to tuck those wires in on the passenger side looks good now. And Im just going to cut a peice of the bracket for the lines to clear I don't wanna risk snapping one of those lines even if it's easy to do I'd probolly f it up.

There 3rd picture you can see it better...those two vaccum lines that are right next to eachother have a oiece of plastic holding them togehter. directly below the bolt the hold the strut bar to the mount...i find it pretty hard to believe that you could mess up moving those lines. haha

Hey try twisting the bar away from you and see if it pushes the mounts away from the engine(outwards)...if not spin it the other way and see if you can spin it enough to get it away from the lines. you'll have to tighten the nuts on the end after you do it.

When i had my 99' lude, i had similar issues when installing the strut bar also, as far as the side with the plug bundle, i unplugged them, removed the metal bracket, and re-connected the plugs underneath that area, resulted in a cleaner look too

Yeah I just wrapped the lines it was touching in fuel line hose and tucked the wires. I ended up doing a full wire tuck excluding the fuse box and battery lol.

Even the better bars will run into the same problems except the neuspeed one I think. I have the ESP one and I had to move all the lines and connectors. Mine are just hanging lol.

Re: Upper front strut bar problem

The bar is actually good quality. It seems solid the brackets aren't cheap and it fit very well other then the having to move the wires and wrap the abs lines. And yeah the more expensive ones can avoid that problem but for 14 bucks Im happy with my bar lol.
