2000 Prelude (Base) ANNOYING Ticking sound!.. Not the usual!

I don't think it's the usual at least.. I've read about 30 different threads on like 4 different boards and none of them really sound like my problem.

It's a very strange ticking noise that only happens when the car is moving. I can't get it to do it if the cars not rolling. It sounds almost like something get's caught in my radiator fan for about 2-3 seconds at a time.

It's a "CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK" or... "TICKTICKTICKTICKTICKTICK" sound. It happens RANDOMLY , and at the strangest times!.. However it seems to happen most when the car is engine braking, or taking off in first/second gear.. Or even rolling down a hill.. I cannot "make" the noise happen, because it happens whenever it wants to it seems. I've checked my oil; it's fine.. And all my lugnuts are on tight. It sounds like a stick or something in my rim/caliper.. But it's at the oddest times! It's hard to hear with the radio barley on, but if my windows down, it's very noticeable. It's not the hood rattling when I take off.. (The shaking when you're about to stall.. It's not that..)

But SOMETIMES, if I'm coasting down a slight hill, it will go as long as the car stays at that speed. (20-50mph?) .. I've tried pushing the clutch in while I hear the noise, and it has no effect. I CANNOT figure it out, because it only happens when the cars moving! How annoying!.. I've checked for loose bolts/nuts/tools that could be sliding around.. but nothing!.. It doesn't SEEM to increase pitch/speed with RPM's.. But I'm not completely sure..

I'll try to get a video of it; but like I said, it only happens so often, at odd times..

Any ideas?

Could be the brake shield...mine was coming off and making weird noises.

Very possible! I'm not sure what that would sound like, but would this be happening if I wasn't braking at all?

It sounds like a wire in a fan under the hood, but there's no way to tell for sure.. Is that a similar sound?

I've checked all over for wires and don't see anything that could be hitting it. A bad axle? Would that be normal at only 120k miles?

My vote is for possible cv joint. And yes it can happen with 120k. Does it do it when turning at low speed?

It seems to do it while coasting down a hill in a straight line the most. But it does happen while accelerating up one as well. Not as often

Just check to see if the boot ripped on the axles. It can happen anytime at any mileage. You would generally hear it when turning though.

You've probably already checked but look for a nail, stick etc stuck to a tire/wheel (could be on the side so you can't see it).

If it's possible, try and have someone record inside the car while you're driving and point out the noises. clicks and ticks can be a lot of things.

Re: 2000 Prelude (Base) ANNOYING Ticking sound!.. Not the usual!

I did find a nail in my tire just now!.. I noticed because my tire was looking a little low.. But it honestly doesn't sound like a nail "clanking" the road or anything. I'm going to try and mount a go pro to the hood or something to get a video. I def know it's louder outside the car, and coming from the front somewhere.
