Ground wire issue

I always had trouble using my cell phone with the radio and being charged. It would make a weird sound on acceleration and decelerating. I was told it could be the ground wire. Well, I was driving on the freeway. I hit a bump and my radio shut off and never came back on. Still hasn't. I went to my car right now (can't remember why) and noticed my interior light didn't come on in any position. So I looked at the trunk light. Same issue (replaced the bulb 2 days ago). But my headlights, the moodroof, cluster works. So I'm confused on how to find this issue and fix it.

Re: Ground wire issue

If it's a ground related issue - simply check your grounds.

One from the battery to transmission

One from the battery to the radiator support

One from the driver side valve cover to the power steering bracket and then to the shock tower

One on the passenger side of the head, beneath the distributor

Check all of these grounds and make sure they are clean of corrosion/dirt etc and are also tight.

If I recall correctly - there is a ground on the back panel within your trunk for the tail lights, as well as one underneath your radio somewhere

Check your fuses as well.

Re: Ground wire issue

All the wires that I could locate were fine and it great shape with no corrosive look to it. So , the radio fuse was fine, but the interior light fuse was blown (15). So, I moved the horn fuse since it was 15 and presto radio started working and the lights on the inside. So just gotta pick up a 15 fuse today.

Thank you for your help :).

Re: Ground wire issue

Glad I could be of some assistance!

Be sure that the correct size fuses are in the proper places as well.

Re: Ground wire issue

There is one that is 7.5 and has a 10 in it. I went and looked for a 7.5 fuse and the store didn't have any. So, going to check next week.

Re: Ground wire issue

if that fuse blows again you need to check for an open or broken wire that is getting grounded when you hit a bump

I had a broken wire on my fog light circuit and it was hot . one night when going home i hit a bump and the whole instrument cluster went out, bout crapped myself.

it ended up blowing out the small light fuse under the hood 15 A, this fuse runs all the "small lights" on the car markers, intrument cluster , tailights,. when i put a new fuse in it would blow right when the lights were turned on.

i got a wiring diagram and traced the wiring checking for voltage drop at each connection until i found the broken wire
