Serious exhaust question

so Honda has had my lude' since last saturday. They've checked timing, MAP sensor, EGR, cleaned throttle body and still having the issue of poor acceleration. After speaking with Honda technical they've deduced that my exhaust is severely restricted. Fair enough, i took it to them the same day i replaced my CAT. I'm not very keen on putting an aftermarket muffler on this thing, SO they sourced a muffler assembly out of Dallas and can have it next day. The RESONATOR however is somewhere up north and won't arrive till early next week. My question is, is that resonator ABSOLUTELY needed?? Does it serve any purpose other than just additional sound deadening? If so, i'm having them order the actual muffler assembly and i've gotta take it back to the exhaust shop that replaced my CAT to fab up the remaining pipe between the CAT outlet to the muffler. Please hit me back with some info fellas, i'm just about tapped out, and since my lude' has been down two weeks ago tomorrow this car i've rented is putting me weeks behind on my other finances. I'm stepping it up selling off stuff i've been sitting on, but after it's all said and done, if this doesn't solve the issue, IM DONE.

Re: Serious exhaust question

You don't need a resonator it just adds more sound proofing.

Re: Serious exhaust question

man, it sounds like you're spending an awful lot on this exhaust. I would have taken what the dealer said and ordered a piping kit online with a resonator, muffler, and new cat and had it all welded and put on by an exhaust shop. definitely would be cheaper than going to the stealership and having them order all their "special" parts

Re: Serious exhaust question

Without the resonator your stock exhaust might be a little louder. Why aren't you keen with putting a aftermarker exhaust on it? Im pretty sure your paying a big bill and could of just gone with WS2 if you like quiet exhausts.

Re: Serious exhaust question

not keen on the account of the multitude of ricer cans everywhere, and so far this is just the OE muffler assembly that i'm getting from them. the B pipe and resonator is just as much as the muffler, but not readily available, hence my question as to whether or not it was absolutely needed. My hunch was that it wasn't needed, but this being my first jap ride i've owned i know **** can get picky. You go from a 69' el camino, an 86' RX-7, and now a lude . . . don't get me started on the fact that i live in an emissions county. Taking a vehicle in to get inspected and this joker jacks into my OBDII port . . . i'm like " wait wut?! "

still, thanks for the input fellas, let's hope i'm back in black before the end of the week.

Re: Serious exhaust question

Lol if you get a good exhaust you won't be considered a ricer. People that get those 100 dollar mufflers off ebay and chop off the orginal exhaust and weld the new ones sound like crap.
That sucks you don't live too far from me luckily in san antonio isn't bad on emissons.

Re: Serious exhaust question

this is OE so it can't be THAT terribad, i just can't in good conscience sink money into a performance aftermarket exhaust after this thing has been down two weeks already. i just need my driver back, and with 208k on the clock, the next step is just short of teardown and rebuild. So i'll tackle that mess when i get there possibly. Cuz this thing really is a blast to drive, and i've loved this bodystyle forever. Long, low, and wide . . . just fits me perfectly. Even if i am 6'5" haahaha

Re: Serious exhaust question

OBDII emissions are great! As long as your ecu don't throw a code, they won't test your tailpipe or fail you. You can get 3" exhaust from header to tip with any 350hp high flow cat and you pass. Also will give some grunt, no fart can noises. There are great exhaust companies to choose from too! You already know their names.

But as a dd, I can understand the quality parts requirement. Honda is crazy good.

I love it too. A lot of people don't like the long look but I fits the prelude perfectly. And really the engine bay is what makes it look long, we have lots of room to work up there :)
