Honda can't fix it??

So i've had an issue with my '99 since two weeks ago tomorrow. It came on slowly then soon it won't accelerate to save it's life. First it would only bump up to 3k rpm and then derate back down to idle after it started to warm up. Swapped cap/rotor/ignition module and got my rpm range back, but still accelerates like you've got the e-brake on. ZERO power and sounding like it's into VTEC almost when you're on the throttle. Okay at idle, or zero load. So the CAT that's been rattling it's ass off i get replaced, it comes off and the catalyst inside is in pieces. Still the same issue, no power, no acceleration, bogging sound when you're into the throttle. So i break down, and just take the fckn thing to Honda last saturday. They jack into it and pull a code for the MAP sensor, which makes enough sense as the issue is there whenever you're loading the engine, and of course vacuum changes, but they say they test it and it checks out ok. Very little info i get from Honda the past two days, get a call today saying they can't nail it down, and were getting codes for a misfire on #3 hole. Swapped plugs, no change . . . This can go one of two ways. He did however say that i'm only into it for $50 so far since they haven't managed to diagnose the actual issue. IT'S THE GOD DAMN DEALERSHIP!?!?! But he at least did come with the bomb saying, some of the techs in there don't have that much exp with older models . . . fml.

to the lord of DOHC . . . fml

just venting fellas, if anybody has any input come on with it. They got tomorrow then i'm payin wtv labor i'm into them for and TAKIN IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!?!?

Find out exactly what codes it is throwing, and list them here for us to help.

Re: Honda can't fix it??

after all this mess all i've seen is random misfire codes popping up. ordered a new dizzy yesterday and next day'd it so i'm staring at it since about 11am today. Slapping this thing on once i get home and i'll be damned if it isn't right after that. I'm done if it isn't, i need reliable transportation and if i means me working every weekend at job number two to make a car payment so fckn be it. Updates to come fellas

Dizzy replaced, codes cleared and test drove . . . NOPE! same issue, ****e acceleration engine bogging and popping back through the intake, so if i absolutely had to tally this back up i'd say i'm a solid 1,200.00 into this thing and it isn't fixed. So i'm pretty much calling it since i can't keep doing this, and i need reliable transportation. Contacting whoever i need to, 99' lude for sale . . . engine aint right, but hey, so long as it's not my problem anymore right??

Re: Honda can't fix it??

did honda tell you it may be a bad ecu? if replacing the controlled parts doesnt fix the problem the only thing left is the controller. you could pull yours out, unscrew the cover and look for burn marks. i know you may have made up your mind to sell it but if youve got a friend with the same motor in, try borrowing their ecu. i warn you though that if yours is fried, there is the danger of frying theirs. though not likely.

Re: Honda can't fix it??

Check and see if your flex pipe is good. I've heard horror stories about the insides of them collapsing and causing massive power loss. If it's been disintegrating, it could cause the catalyst to shatter or take damage. As far fetched as it may seem, I've seen them collapse internally and reduce the factory size to just about 3/4", which is WAY too restrictive for even a stock car. It can cause huge backpressure and some strange exhaust characteristics. One of my friends had this happen and sunk just about $900 on it till he removed the Cat and saw the flexpipe had been destroyed.
