Spun Rod Bearing?

I not entirely sure if I spun a bearing or what happened exacty, but i know my engine sounds comparable to a fork in a blender (not quite that bad but you get the point.) I've read on a bunch of other threads it could be a few things, bad auto tensioner, which i just had the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner changed about a month ago, it's not a valve tick cause those were adjusted about 4 months ago which leaves me with the rods. Is there an easy way to check and see how screwed i am with either the tensioner or rod bearings without pulling my motor? Oh and its a 98 sh btw. Thanks for any help.

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

Drain your oil; If you see alotta metal/copper shavings, ya spun a bearing.

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

put a stethoscope(sp?) on the motor and determine where the noise is coming from then go from that point.

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

Im getting some kind of knock from my 96 SI, don't think its a rod bearing. It wants to die at idle rpms. This guy i bought it from said he was doing 120 for an hour straight oil is black btw. could it be a stuck lifter? im a noob when it comes to diagnostics

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

big ass hurry lol. anyway, im wondering if that would be likely to cause a spun bearing, or if its more likely to be the valvetrain. as soon as the sun comes up im going to post a video....
