Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I recently painted my gauge bezels silver and now my gas gauge is messed up. I ad a 3/4 tank but when I started my car it went way past the full line. It's up to the F and not reading correctly. Any ideas? Also, I'm gonna go put in a full tank to see if it reads correctly.

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

If you touched or moved the needle any bit you messed it up. Did you connect the plug in the back correctly?

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I did touch it a bit and it moved but nothing was unplugged. How can I fix it? My cousin said the same thing happened to his car and it went away in like 2-3 days of driving.

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

The needles are set at the dealer when it's made or something like that and once it's touched or moved it messes it all up. So in other words your screwed lol. Try filling it up and moving it yourself like hunter did the worst that can happen is it still not work.

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I hope I'm not screwed lol. I've been having way too many problems with this car. Honestly thinking about selling it if something else happens. Well at least something major. As for filling up, I did this morning and the needle hasn't budged a bit. I'm really regretting this bezel mod now lol even though it was my fault

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

No your not screwed....same thing happened to
me in my accord when i put EL gauges on.
What you need to do is take the clear shield off
of the bezel so you can touch the needle while driving.
Then go fill it up all the way and re-adjust your gauge.
Also to make sure, reset your trip on the odometer
and track your MPG that way youll know if it is still off.

Haha dude I moved the RPM needle to 8.5 and sent a pic to my cousin to mess with him. But didn't intend to move the gas needle.

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

Lol personally I think it's the best mod I've done interior wise. Makes the gauges look awesome and at night the orange reflects off of them and makes it look pretty cool. If your going to do it make sure to pop the gauge cover off and put the actual gauge's somewhere safe and just don't touch it lol. It's super easy.

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

yea you have to wait until you drive around a bit for the tank sensor to settle. After driving roughly 7-10 miles or letting the car sit while running for 7-10 minutes thats when you need to adjust the gauge

Ah I see. Will try in the morning. Thanks man, really appreciate it. As for Hunter, do the mod man. It's well worth it. It makes you want to drive your prelude even more while looking at the gauges lol. Even if you do mess up your gas needle, you now know how to fix it lol

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I agree do the mod I did mine silver rings with a red bezel and I think it is a small mod but with big effect.....yea let the gas settle in the tank and as long as you didnt drive a long distance, just adjust it to the F and youll be all set or at least for your sake i hope youll be all set Im just going by what worked for me...I had to do the gas gauge and my speedo since the MPH was off... I made my mom get on the highway in her toyota tundra and hit 80 mph so i could set my gauge lol

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I will post pics of mine tomorrow. Even though I messed up my gas gauge (hopefully fixes tomorrow) it was still worth it. Best part, I did it in less than 45 mins lol

I was just looking at your build thread. You made your Lude look so much better than when you just bought it bro. I like it. Especially your color combo, and the clean looking leather. Just wish it was a manual man lol. And I also want your light set up right now lol

Re: Urgent Help!! Gas Gauge

I noticed even after i fill up my tank and i watch the gauge it don't move for about 5 mins.

Yeah i think i'm going to be doing it soon. i just have to replace my crank senser first. i'm painting them the color of my truck. i got a pint of paint when i bought the cap so i'm going to use that stuff up. $250 for a pint so i'm gonna use it before it goes bad.

I was never too crazy about trucks. Though they would eliminate me trying to cram wood boards and crap in my Prelude lol. Nice truck though.
