Slipping/Shutter/Clutch?

I got a 99' Prelude with 134k on it, manual tranny. Completely stock under the hood. Its leaking oil from somewhere maybe the Tranny seals. But jet recently (Last night is when i noticed it) when Slowing down in 1st, and backing up slowly in reverse it gives almost a studder/shaking feeling. It only does it when i'm driving about 20MPH or lower. it also does it when the car is sitting level and idling in 1st. it just shakes. it sounds like the clutch is trying to engage but is slipping or something.

I know thats not the best description possible. but any input would be awesome. REALLY hoping its not the tranny going out but the fact that in every other gear and above 15/20 MPH it shifts like butter is making lean toward a clutch problem? a buddy of mine took it around the block the other night and said the clutch feels new.

What do you guys think?

Re: Slipping/Shutter/Clutch?

Bad/worn motor mounts cause ALOTTA shaking and vibration throughout the whole car.

Re: Slipping/Shutter/Clutch?

do they make sound though?
the reason i'm thinking its the clutch is because when the windows are down it sounds like the clutch is trying to catch is slipping maybe or something. it rolls and accelerates just fine once you actually get it moving. also i forgot to mention that when shifting from 1st to 2nd it doesn't want to go into 1st. not wanting to force, but still giving it a good amount of umph it gets into 1st.

Re: Slipping/Shutter/Clutch?

You know what's funny, I just had this exact same problem start happening to me. Seems to be intermittent, but it's been happening pretty frequently for the past month or so. Today coming home from dinner, I was sitting at a light and couldn't shift out of 1st gear, i had the clutch depressed and the car just jerked and stalled like I didn't have the clutch in. Master cylinder isn't leaking, it's completely full and I haven't filled it in at least a year. I'm thinking the slave cylinder might've gone bad OR maybe the clutch pedal just needs and adjustment really bad. I'm leaning more towards the slave cylinder though.

P.S. @ Neck, this feels different than shot motor/trans mounts. It's not a normal shudder/vibration, it's really weird and hard to explain haha.

Re: Slipping/Shutter/Clutch?

I took it to my Mechaniac it he drove it around the block said that it is most likely not the tranny but clutch/clutch bearing. in which case it doesn't matter both will need to be replaced. *Whew*
