Icon5 Need advise on what to do about my 5th gens paint

I picked up my first 2000 SH prelude a few months back and have done a few upgrades/repairs since then (new motor mounts/completely new exhaust system/new front axles/valve cover gasket/Depo headlights/tint etc). the next thing it needs the most is unfortunately a new paint job. I'm the 3rd owner of this car. The guy I bought it off of told me that the original owner had the car repainted to its current color which is a paint code from Porsche due to the original red paint fading supposedly. I love the color of the current paint but the paint job is terrible.

It looks like it was basically a macco paint job with door jambs etc. The thing is they did absolutely no prep work for the new paint, they basically sprayed right over the original paint. Without sanding down the car, primer etc. So now what I am left with is numerous spots of the current paint chipping and the original red showing through. Mainly on my bumper. The interior on the car is almost a 10/10 id say, and besides the paint the exterior is good, no body/frame damage or rust.

My lude sits at 170k right now. My question is what is the best thing to do about the paint? I know that good paint jobs are really expensive, I was thinking about possibly getting it wrapped but i know that isnt cheap either. My other question is, are preludes worth holding onto? If i do go through with a new paint job and the mileage that mine is at would it be worth it? I always had the thought in the back of my head of dropping a new engine in eventually when this one goes and just hold onto the lude forever. I just want to make sure i'm not going to be getting into a money pit, so any advice would be awesome.

*here is a picture of the car when I first picked it up, in the middle of oem headlight restoration. its kind of hard to see in this picture but by the lip kit the paint is chipping and showing the oem red. It has gotten worse over time and is showing around the headlights and windshield now along with other areas.*

thanks

Type-S Lip, Fogs...it looks good. If you like the paint (color) why not save up and have it done right. To be honest You're never going to get the money you put into that car so is it worth doing if you're going to sell it later, no but if you're going to hold onto it and feel like some do about their Preludes then it's absolutely worth it. No one really knows except for you.

Im gonan agree with that too, fully repainting will be the most costly.. im debating getting it done to mine but since it isnt as bad as your case i dont feel inclined to do it right away lol

We all love are preludes(well at least I do) and I know I would never sell it or at least not any time soon what so ever. So if I had the $ to paint her, I would. In my poinion if you feel passionate about your ride than anything you put into it will please you. If you ever sell it you won't get the money back, you will loose money. It all depends on whether you have the prelude temporary and what not

Im not gonna lie ive had those moments where i wanna get rid of her because of all the problems but once i get something fixed if its my paint, audio, or like recently my blown out muffler i seriosuly fall in love with it harder! :D It sucks to drop money but as the saying goes, "your gotta spend money to make money!" Thats never the first thing that comes to mind with repairs though lol :P

I'm the same way, when there's a lot of problems to be fixed on the ride it gets me discouraged. But once I start to replace things, and it rides that much better or upgrades etc it makes me love the car. I just really want my car to look clean and for that to happen its going to need a new paint job. I love having a car that not many others out there have, and the prelude fits perfect for that. I try to look at the money being spent on my prelude is only making the car better. And if I were to sell the car and get something different i would have to come up with a couple grand, and spend money to get that car to how i really want it to be. Thanks for all of the inputs, all really good points. The other thing that my car needs is a nice set of rims and tires. But i'm stuck on that until i decide on the paint and color to make sure the rims will match whatever thats going to be lol. Even though more than likely i'll stick to the Porsche paint code, i think it fits the car good. That or maybe a similar paint code off of the last body style of the toyota supra
