My stock air intake has a hole.

My check engine light went on right after I got it out of the shop for an oil change and trans fluid change and I couldn't figure out why. I was cleaning my engine the other day and noticed as I was cleaning in the intake that there was a hole in it.

Not an actual circular hole but the tube was cut (about 70% of it was cut) and it was connected through the remaining 30% of plastic that was connected. Could this cut have triggered a check engine light due to the difference in air quality? What could I do to fix it?

Should I replace the entire intake and just buy two 45 degree tubes, air filter and two 180 degree tubes and make my own with clamps?

Just looking for the best solution to this problem, I did a search a came up with nothing! :P

Thanks in advance!

Re: My stock air intake has a hole.

A hole in your intake will not generate a code. It will allow unfiltered air into your engine and I would definitely suggest you fix the hole somehow but you will need to check other things for the CEL.

First thing would be the simplest, check all vacuum lines. If you find one, fix it and reset the computer. What gen lude do you have? On a 5th gen you can disconnect the negative wire from the battery for 10 minutes to reset codes.

Re: My stock air intake has a hole.

My intake was torn when I first got it. Just get one from the junkyard or invest in a cold air or short ram intake.

Re: My stock air intake has a hole.

I unhooked the battery to see if the code would occur again, the code hasn't come back. Maybe the code was simply from when my mechanic changed the oil, maybe he didn't reset the computer?

Re: My stock air intake has a hole.

I don't think you get cel after changing your oil. If it doesn't come back at all then maybe it was just something random, I had my fuel system cel come up I reseted the computer and never came back again.
