Front Sway bar bushings

Hey guys, got my oil changed and was doing an inspection underneath since I dont have my own lift :( and I noticed both of my front bushings are cracked. Bad. Just the bushings are like 10 bucks each which isnt a big deal but my mechanic was tellin me that i have to take them to a shop for some sort of fitting or welding or something along those lines to get them off and put the new ones on.

Is there a way I can diy this? I thought Id be spending 20 bucks to fix my car, not 100 haha. Thanks ahead of time.

Re: Front Sway bar bushings

Depending on which ones they are, at worst they need to be pressed out and new ones pressed in -- can be done with a mallet and a piece of dowling. If they're the ones in the middle that bolt to the frame, just replace the whole bushing and bracket. Shop manual should have good illustrations in it for both.

And does anyone know the size of the stock bushings? 23mm or 25.4mm? Or is it something else :P

Sure -- take the sway bar off the car, clamp it to something solid, and a few good whacks should have them out. As far as size, just go with something made for the car -- factory parts if you want to keep it stock, or something like 97-02 Honda Prelude Sway Bar Bushings from Prothane at Andy's Auto Sport if you want to stiffen it up a bit.
