Icon2 Can I install tint on the glass sunroof?

I am posting this thread on the 5th gen section is because all of you 5th gen luders have glass sunroof so I would like to hear any advice/opinion/recommend.

Today I went to two tint shops to get my glass sunroof tint. One of the shops wouldn't recommend me to get the glass sunroof tinted because it will crack eventually. I decided to go to another tint shop to hear their opinion to see if same or not and they were like "Sure, we can do that for $35" I was like... ok but will it crack eventually? They said no way never heard. I am lost. I told em that I will be back after I research to be sure. I checked all the different kind of forums about tinting the sunroof. Most of threads said never happen, but one of threads stated one cracked due to tint. So, I would like to know what you think or do you have experience install aftermarket tint on your 5th gen glass sunroof? Also whats the lowest tint percent do you recommend to install tint on glass sunroof?

Before you say, "simple to do whole assembly conversion that include spade" that is not an option because I don't want to lose my third brake light with rare prelude logoed ovary.

Thank you for your time, luders.

Alex

Re: Can I install tint on the glass sunroof?

My lude came with 20% tinted sunroof and I personally never had a problem with it. I also have never heard of a tint causing the window to crack. As long as you install it properly i think you'll be fine.

factory tint or aftermarket tint? My glass sunroof have some dark on it, but I don't know if it is factory tint, but it doesn't help at all because it let damn sun go thru make my interior little bit hot.

I had some aftermarket tints; 20% for the sunroof, rear windshield, 30% for the front windshield and side windows. Tinting your windows will actually make it slightly cooler in your car depending on how dark you get it and the quality of the shades you purchase.

Personally, I like having the tints just for the looks. It gets hot as **** here in sacramento during the summer time.. and having a midnight blackhawk paint doesn't help much so the tints don't really help with the temperature as much for me. All in all though, the tints are worth having imo.

Re: Can I install tint on the glass sunroof?

I have tints all around - can't say if they're aftermarket or not, but the tint on my sunroof looks perfect compared to the tint on my back window. Back window is starting to peel and bubble a little bit after all these years. Nothing too noticeable to the average joe though.

Wouldn't tinting your side/rear window be quite similar to tinting your sunroof? In fact, maybe even easier with the sunroof, as the glass (And tint) on the sunroof doesn't come in contact with anything, as opposed to your side windows going up and down?

Alright, but tint is on top or bottom of your sunroof?

I understand, but my lude always parked under trees on the driveway, so shouldn't be a problem if I add tint on it? I know tint doesn't help if car parked while sun on it, but it does help if car moves with A/C on.

Yeah I worked at an audio place and did tiny and we wouldn't tint the sunroofs. The tint is supposed to block the UV Rays and most sunroofs already have that sort of tint built in from factory

I understand but the problem is the factory tint on it is not enough and let the sun go thru make my interior hotter. I have no problem parked my in the driveway because it is under trees but the problem is when I drive my car and feel hotter when sun go thru. So adding a little bit dark tint is my only option. I think add tint on sunroof should be fine because my a/c blowing freeze so heat will be gone.

that dosent make sense. the heat comes from the light from the sun. u/v rays dont get trapped in your car therefore dont need to escape. darker tint will block more u/v rays from entering the car and damaging your interior and it will keep some of the heat from the sun out as well. i dont know where he got his bad info but you can do it and it does help. when i lived in arizona i worked at a dealership and we tinted almost every sunroof we sold and it does help with the heat.

Actually I'm not too sure lol. Got the car like this. Tints all around (including sunroof) are pretty dark though - can't see through much at night. I'm gonna go ahead and assume the tint is on the inside as well. I was under the impression all aftermarket tints are placed on the inside? Sorry I can't be of more help lol. When I get my car back the end of this week I'll double check where the tint is.

Re: Can I install tint on the glass sunroof?

I have 20% all around llumar brand. I've heard/had bad experiences with getting 3m tint at mother's I wouldn't recommend getting anything done there. I also have my sunroof tinted and I think it's darker then 20% I've compared it and I can't see in at all through my sunroof so maybe 2%? Anyways yes it's safe to tint your sunroof and just like tinting windows Im pretty sure it goes on the inside of the glass, well mines like that.
