Icon5 Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

I have a 97 auto tranny lude and i was using the sportshift that it has and the vtec usually kicks in at 5k rpm when i gun it but now it kicks in a little after 6k rpm and when it kicks in it over revs even when i shift before it redlines . Also when I dont use the sportsshift it still misshifts by itself ;/

Any ideas?

Tranny going out?
One more thing when I just drive it without flooring it no misshifts happen and everything works fine.

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

You have one of Honda's weakest known tranny's; stop beating on it and (hopefully) it'll last you a bit longer so you can save up for another transmission, or better yet, a 5 speed conversion.

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

Yeah seems your tranny is failing, being a 97 thats when they were at it's very worst. I'd stop using sports shift and drive your car soft.

Quit beating on it and save your money for a 5-speed swap.

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

not to upset anyone but was this not a 2 part question? Mis shifting and v-tec kicking in late. I had a similar issue with my 97 auto regarding the v-tec and it seems to have been resolved by fixing an overheating issue I was having. Have you noticed any connection between the v-tec issue and the engine temp?

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

whats crazy it didnt have to do anything with the tranny, it was the oil pressure that was low. This morning the oil pressure light came on and i check the oil and i was running dry which is odd because there arent any noticeable leaks. I filled it up with oil the light turned off and i let the oil settle and i floored it and everything works back to normal again vtec kicks in when it should and it doesnt misshift. Did it like twice but either way no more beating on it and gonna end up doing the 5 speed swap anyways :)

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

Well that makes sense since the v-tec is oil controlled. Glad you are ok.

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

i dont know much about vtec but since you said the vtec is oil controlled you think thats why my oil was so low? Using the vtec too much?

Re: Auto Tranny Mis shift Help!

Nope, these engines are known for burning oil. I never have any smoke coming out of the exhaust, have no leaks either but manage to be having to put in a quart every month or so. Ask around, our cars eat it up. LOL
