Header heat wrap

I plan on heat wrapping my stock header, exhaust manifold what ever it's called lol, since my heat shield has a crack in it and is rusty. Has anyone done this? I want to know how much heat wrap I need in feet to be able to wrap it so Im not stuck with my header off and not enough wrap. Also the header gasket would I need to replace it when I unbolt it off my engine? Also any other gaskets I need to replace? Thank you.

Re: Header heat wrap

If the gaskets are in good condition, leave 'em. If in bad condition.. replace 'em.

There's 3 gaskets;
-Between the head and upper primaries.
-Upper primaries and lower B-pipe.
-Lower B-pipe to cat.

Re: Header heat wrap

i mean its not to to expensiv, id just buy an okay amount of it so your not stock with half of it looking mad good, then the other half looking mad rusty lol. just the manifold runners probably wouldnt need no more that 20-25 feet but ive never wrapped any header so i have no clue lol thats all in my head so just buy enough to do that and maybe your friend might want some???

Re: Header heat wrap

i did heat wrap on my gsxr 750 all the way back to the pipe, i dont remember how much i used but i do remember that on ebay where i got the wrap there was a graph showing how much you will need and it was exact. i ordered 5 feet extra just in case and had 5 feet left. but about 15-20 2" wrap will be plenty and you should be able to wrap it without removing the header although it might be easier to just take it off. here is a link that will help you determine how much you will need.

Re: Header heat wrap

Thanks for the link! Im gonna take off my header when my exahaust comes in so I can do it all at once. I asked my friend and he said he only used 12 feet on his ebay header, is there much a difference in the stock vs ebay in size? I found a 2 inch by 15 feet roll on ebay for 16 bucks.
