Which tires should I get?

I don't know a anyone at a local tire shop I trust explicitly. I have a 2001 with stock rims. Want I want to focus on is noise reduction, then handling, then least important is wear. Nothing too soft. I was hoping to pay around $500. I appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Which tires should I get?

There are all kinds of tires you can use.

Personally I like Falkens, Nitto's, BF Goodrich, Azenis, Toyo, Yokohama, Michelin, Hankook etc etc. I would just try and stay away from cheap Chinese tires like Nan-Kangs or anything that you've never really heard of. You won't go wrong with any of the tires I've listed. If you get a Penny-Saver they always have deals on tires from local tire shops in your area.

Re: Which tires should I get?

I would go with some kumho ecsta 205/45/16. They are really quiet, handle well, and they are decently priced.

Good luck.

i also agree with the ecstas. i have them and i absolutely love them. there are ast's and asx's. i would reccomend the ast's but they are a little more. mine were about $120 but i got them for free because the company i got them from are a bunch of dumbasses. but yeah, they're great.

Re: Which tires should I get?

Toyo, General or Continental. These are pricy, but better than average. Bf Goodrich radial t/a h rating are decent for the money. Quiet depends on the psi your tire is inflated to. Too high and you'll have road noise, too low, poor ride quality.

TIRES: What You need to know

The tire reviews are in that thread too.

Re: Which tires should I get?

Why does road noise matter? lol I could care less. Handling and thread wear is the most important and if you have an exhaust you can barely hear the noise if any at all. I recently got some Falkens of of discount tire direct. Paid about $380 in total for tires and to have them mounted and balanced.

For any long distance driving, it matters...listening to the tires howl for 500 miles really does make you tired. And for any distance, tire noise can mask other noises from the car that actually tell you something.

If you want decent handling, soft (whatever the treadwear rating says) comes with the territory. A 50,000 mile tire won't cut it...figure 25-30,000 miles. I've had really good results from Sumitomos, and surprisingly, Federals. Hard to go wrong with Kumho, Hankook or Continental (although Contis in that size are pricey). I haven't liked any BFG I've tried, and Dunlops, while they drive OK, wear out as you look at them...don't even have to leave the driveway.

Re: Which tires should I get?

Geez prices have come up on "compact" tires. Ok, I just looked up stock tire sizes for the prelude.... whew. If your car is factory stance, you can fit these under the wells, and you're not breaking the bank.
