A/C causing idle drop driving me nuts !

Hey guys.. I've swapped a JDM H22 type-s into an ek9 civic. The engine runs great, compression was 240 across the board and I've had my tuner chip it with a p08 from my previous setup.

My problem is, everytime the A/C is on the idle drops down to 300-400 and then slowly rises again. I've had the IACV cleaned, the ecu pinouts checked again and they're fine. Its only when the compressor turns on the idle drops and its ridiculously annoying everytime the car comes to a stop , say a traffic light, the idle will drop causing vibrations and then slowly comes up. I had the A/C serviced and cleaned out, checked for blockages etc. I dont know why its causing such a load on the engine that it cant compensate/maintain the idle.

anyone face this problem before? my mechanics and electrician are at a loss for words. They said the compressor is working perfectly although one guy mentioned the temperature of the compressor is slightly higher than it should be at idle indicating a possible blockage but he says hes taken the entire thing apart and cleaned every bit of it..

would anyone know anything at all about this problem? any help would be greatly appreciated

anyone? google has let me down too, there're lots of people facing this issue but there're no answers out there. the Throttle body has been cleaned, my IACV is fine, compressor is fine.. car idles perfectly fine when AC is switched off, only when its on, if i rev it and let go the rpm dips to 200-300 causing vibrations before rising back slowly. Does this everytime the car crawls to a stop with the a/c on.

I wish someone knew. I'm having the exact same problem, but mine does it repeatedly. It'll be at about 700 then drop to 200-300 and come back up and drop back down until i press the gas. the idle isn't surging just moving up and down slowly

mine does that sometimes too, sometimes it'll rise only to drop over and over again. this is crazy, i've come across so many threads on different forums but no one has the answer, everyone always recommends the IACV , TB cleaning.

My 00 Lude was doing that awhile back, so I took it to my mechanic and they did an A/C Service and replaced the Condenser fans and the car has been fine ever since.

Hm, I guess the AC still needs to be addressed then, I cant figure why the compressor temp. would be running on the high side unless somethings up. Theres no sound or such coming from the compressor to indicate anything amiss but I guess i'll have it checked out once again anyhow.

Get it checked out...it can't hurt to have it looked at.

I have the exact same symptoms. I also cleaned the IACV and TB but problem is still there. Idle plummets only when the compressor is on and I blip the throttle or slow to a stop at a red light.
Did you find a fix yet??

yes the idle is suppose to drop a little but not to the point where the engine shutters and almost stalls.

Mine does it too, but I only turn my AC on when it's above 95 degrees, so it doesn't really matter.

Mine shuttered like that. Never stalled..:/

Personally, I think its relatively normal but if it is actually stalling then i could see a problem O.o

I would just take it to the shop and if they cant help you, turn your a/c off before you get to a red light or stop sign lulz

EDIT: I would take it BACK to the shop*

Re: A/C causing idle drop driving me nuts !

I'm not saying it should drop but it happens to almost every car. idle defintly should drop to a stall out but a little drop is normal. every 4 or 6 cylinder i've ever been in or been around did it. as far as removing it...IMO it's dumb. when it's not engaged it's just spinning freely and taking up like 2 or 3 horsepower. if you're really that worried about that 2 or 3 horsepower then you shouldn't have it as a street car. that's just my opinion. i'd never remove mine. 95 degrees in bumper to bumper traffic without ac isn't fun.

Re: A/C causing idle drop driving me nuts !

I still havent been able to determine whats causing this. However my mechanic says he'll fiddle around with an "rpm controller for the ac". I dont know what hes talking about, but he says its a separate controller that'll maintain my idle once it detects the compressor turning on. will be dropping by his workshop tomorrow.
