hey guys just asking for some advice. my CEL is on due to misfires and low compression and was hoping to fix the misfire problem.

do these look worn enough to be replaced?

i'm worried to take out any spark plugs at the moment cause I dont have the spacer tool or w/e.

What codes are you throwing? How do you know you have low compression? I'm at work and can't see the pictures (dang proxies), but if you have low compression, spark may not be your only problem.

Also, when did the problem start? Did you over-rev, mis-shift, anything like that? (Be honest!)

actually, I think I bought a lemon. I owned the car for like 6 months now and I granny this thing since the CEL is on.

bought it at about 158k miles and 20 miles after i bought it the CEL went on...so i 'm pretty sure he reset it.

The body and interior were in such good condition that I took the risk with the high mileage.

took it to a mechanic to check it out, and he pulled the code and said its misfiring valves and low compression in cyl 3.

whats weird though is sometimes the CEL will go compltely off for a few days..then come back on so im not sure what that means.

and sometimes the CEL will blink which i know is hella bad, ( happened 3 times) i pull over right away and restart the engine and it goes back to solid.

Well you can check the CEL on your own without a code reader, it will tell you exactly what it is throwing. As for the compression, there's no code for it. Generally it will come up as a misfire. Only way to know loss of compression is to do a compression test. Does the car run rough? If it is misfiring or you have compression loss, it should.

yeah it's running totally fine..revs strong, idles no problem. maybe a little rough at times, but nothing abnormal for a car 15 years old.

the mechanic actually tested the compression of the valves for me and showed me.

it sucks though, he said it would be close to a grand to get it fixed so I was looking for alternatives...can't afford that kind of money right now.
