Knock Sensor issue.

So this is what happened... From a stop I accelerated through first and into 2nd and just as I had my hand on the shift knob to shift into 3rd, I hit a divot in the road which threw my car out of gear entirely with a massive thud. As soon as that happened I got a Knock Sensor CEL and my car began to run like $hit. I immediately pulled over and turned the car off to asses any visual damage but luckily there was none. I reset my CEL and turned the car on and it seemed to run fine until 4 miles later when the CEL came back on. So the engine is making no abnormal noises but everything points towards my valves being F-ed... If so, would checking my valve lash just like doing a valve adjustment help give me a definitive answer? Is there anything else I should check as well? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Knock Sensor issue.

I'll wager the knock sensor issue is a loose connection -- the sensor is nothing more than a small microphone perched inside the block skirting. Certainly check the valve clearance, but if you damaged the valves, there's something more than a bump in the road you didn't mention. :)

Re: Knock Sensor issue.

Thanks Jamie. I have had my car long enough to realize that it's never something simple so I tend to jump right to the negatives... Fingers crossed for a possible first...

Re: Knock Sensor issue.

If it's still running well, the valves should be OK. Check for other things that might have shaken loose in the area of the knock sensor (can't think of any offhand, but...); anything tapping in that area would fool the sensor.
