Shift knob issue =S

Hi,

Sorry if this has been explained before but I looked in the DIY section and couldn't figure this out. So I finally bought a cheap one from ebay. Installation when pretty smooth except that I'm not able to make the knob hold on the metal thing.

Any idea? Thanks.

You mean the bolt that the knob is sitting on?

You can go to the junkyard and grab a boot from a civic And it will look 10x better

Re: Shift knob issue =S

Find a store that sells really large zipties. Unscrew your console. Push up the boot to the knob then ziptie 2 underneath. Then lower your console n screw back on and you got yourself a flush boot n knob!

Just tried that tip, it didn't really work=/ Do I need to take off the boot, the bolt doesn't seem to go under the boot because there's a metal thing on the top of it.

I don't have any zip tie and stores are closed today here -_-.

Re: Shift knob issue =S

I finally found some zip tie and followed the instructions but this part http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1231456941

didn't work for me, my knob doesn't hold on the boot even with the zip tie =S. I left it as it's for now -_-

Buy this http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...id=02493024664 it will replace the stock coller. I have it on my car with my PSPEC short shifter and shift knob looks pretty good I think.

Re: Shift knob issue =S

hehe, you are supposed put the washer on BEFORE u reinstall the console piece, then it can lock where the boot stays in place. Seems like u put it on after u installed the console.. Easy fix

yes sir, hes 100% right, i got my little ring off an integra, its 2 pieces the ring everyone will see, and then this hardened rubber ring that pinchs the boot to the plastic piece that no one will see. what i had to do is take the plastic piece (out side piece everyone will see) and file the inside to bore it out slightly bigger to fit on my shifter (the metal thingy) then electric take the metal thingy slighty under the boot right before install to keep the shift boot from sagging.

Heres how mine looks now sorry if my description isnt the best if you pm me if your trying to go this route ill get way way way more in depth but needless to say i believe you can still order this part from acura/honda.

well the actual boot was stitched for a prelude but who knows, the civic/integra boots may possibly work. the plastic piece you see in the photo is all i got from the integra, also the tough rubber band inside the boot is what holds it flush against the plastic ring and is the most important piece to the function of it. just be careful not to lose it when disassembaling it from the civic/integra.

Awesome, ill start experimenting with junkyard pieces, and if something fits, hopefully i can order a shiny new one of them. Thanks'

You mean "stitched" from some piece of leather, I want to get a smaller one made for mine when i put a shorter rod on, good to know it can be done..
