It's up to you. Of course were all going to say keep your Prelude cause we obviously love Preludes lol :) But in my opinion I hate BMW's they look nice but their too common and not a head turner like Preludes are and all their models look the same and don't have much style. Engine wise is of course a upgrade.
Compare specs and it all comes down to what you want and like.

i couldn't agree more with this. maintenance probably costs a little more and is more work as well.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

The one thing I loved about BMW when my dad was looking into getting one was the oil filter was on top of the engine so it was super easy to get to and change, don't know if that's only in the newer models.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

Take it from a girl who has had 3 bimmers, the fastest being a 2001 330ci with a stick.
Yes, it's nice to show up in one and I definintely felt sexier in it but when it comes time to fix them, you need lost of money. I would only get one again if it was new with the included maint pkg. It cost me close to $3000 to get the clutch changed in my 330ci if that says anything.

If you do go that route, have the person meet you at a dealer and have then do a complete inspection of the car. Do not go to Joe the mechanic!

I miss my 330 but could no longer afford the upkeep and believe me, I do pretty well with my line of work.

2x^^ my bro in law had a M5 and he only drove it once in a blue moon. he never had fun with it. now he had a twin turbo 135i. ran 11seconds on the 1/4 mile almost stock, but for fun he also has a civic hatch lol. you can beat on a honda all day without having anything to worry about.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

^^Agreed. Honda's can take the abuse. Bimmers are nice and run super nice but like other people said. parts aren't cheap. As far as parts go tho Bimmer's are usually cheapest out of the higher end cars to fix. (Benz, Lexus, etc.)

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

Yeah, an M3 is a sexy car and lets face it.. who wouldn't want to have one as a DD. Although to me, your lude is sexier! And it probably wouldn't be as much fun as driving a prelude.. i wouldn't want to beat on an M3 too often or drive recklessly because its too precious and the parts are expensive. Don't let our biased opinions get to you though, do what you want because it should be your preference.

Hmm, the new M3 is rated at 400hp stock. Nice way to start although I have always been partial to the 3 series myself, the M5 is also nice.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

That video says it all. Keep the lude and you'll be able to keep most of your wallet. Buy the bimmer and you prolly won't. Plus, I've had bmw guys tell me that there's not half as much of a community to bmw owners as there is to Luders. Also, your lude looks great, so why not continue on with that?

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

I LOVE M3s, even my user name is M3. Im 100% agree that bmws are lot expensive to take good care of. but being a Russian i love them no matter what. My buddy just sold his TSX and bought a E46 M3, that what makes me wanna get one aswell. my car looks so ignorant next to my buddys car because is FWD and I4. I also know that i can turbo my lude and beat him all day long but since i have lots of love to bmw i might as well get one.

think it over a lot before you jump the gun. when i went wheeling in my friends jeep all i wanted to do was build a jeep for a month. i also still want to get a B5 or B6 S4 as well. but i know absolutely everything about my prelude, what has been done to it and how healthy the engine is. take that into consideration as well. you have no idea how that M3 has been driven, i can say if i did own it i would have beat the piss out of it

X 200000

I always see cars on craigslist that I would like to have but you never know how mechanically sound they are. At least you know your car. Thats a huge reason Ive never gotten rid of my lude. I would hate to trade it for another car I like and then get screwed over and the motor blow a week later on the car I received in the trade

Im not gonna lie it looks pretty clean but never been fond of beamers. O_O Your money so just depends on whatyou want man. Like mentions hondas are relatively low maintenance wont have to pay as much for parts, labor is less and etc

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

I agree with the other above about "Not knowing how it was driven" Have you even seen or driven the car in person? I'd do that before you even think twice about this and if it's in good condition and runs fine then start comparing your prelude and the M3 make a list of what needs to be done/fixed to the M3 price it out and decide if you can afford it, along with things you'd like to add on in the future. Then think long and hard if you would want to use all that money onto the M3 or keep your prelude and use that money to turbo or other things. If you really love Bmw's and really want one then go for it if everything is good. But if the M3 is beaten to ****t and needs a ton of repairs out of your price max then pass and keep looking.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

Keep in mind that I know jack **** about cars, but IMHO I think the body style of the Prelude is more interesting than the BMW.

The BMW, has a boxy, blingy looking to it. Perfect, if that is what you are looking for, but the Prelude, to me anyway, has a really sharp, fast look to it.

I guess it depends on what you want out of a car (design, performance, reliability etc...)

As far as design, I think the Prelude takes it. The design of the Prelude is the reason I wanted one in the first place. I don't know. I think it may have something to do with the angle that the hood meets the front fender. It may be the beer talking.

Definitely think it over. Every time I get back into my Prelude after an extended time driving a different car, I remember how much I love the way it handles.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

I'd keep the Lude. I see Bimmers all the time and i don't think anything of it, plus like everyone else said you know your car and what's wrong and what might need fixed against knowing very little if any about what the bimmer needs.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

Forget the M3. Too much money, parts are premium, and insurance is through the roof.
Most owners stick around for the 4 years, beat the sh!t out of the car then trade in for a 328 or 323 or what ever will translate into a 100.00/ month note.

NOW you wanna classic BIMMER....

you got my vote, LOL!

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

I sold my last Prelude and went to a Camry, then a Lexus GS300, to a BMW 330xi and could not wait to get back into another Prelude. I'm not even turbo'd and I can walk an E46 M3 with my current setup.

Not to mention the cost difference. I had the money to maintain the BMW, but that same money got me boosted and my Lude gets waaaay more attention and "meaningful" compliments than the bimmer ever did. Don't get me wrong, I did get compliments on my bimmer. However, they were usually from people that saw the key. "Oh, you drive a BMW?!" The key and the name didn't mean squat to me. You think anyone sees my Honda key and says "Oh, you drive a Honda?! You rollin a 4 banger?" Aboslutely not, but when they see and/or hear it......

i dont get what youre getting at. first you say preludes are not "real cars" now the prelude is "ignorant" next to your friends M3 because its fwd. i dont know about you but i have a real fwd car that will rape your friends M3 all day long. if you dont like your car to the point you have to call it a fake car then you dont deserve to own a prelude. sell it to someone that will show it the love it needs.

Re: Trade my prelude into M3???????

I owe you 1 rep guyan.

It's all relative. Preludes are not for keeping up with the Joneses. They are for getting oohs and aahs at a stop light because Honda Laid one more golden egg before becoimng hipster somewhere before 2001. If its your girl Kamran, tell her to get back in the kitchen she don't know what she's talking about. It you want power, go true German, get a Audi RS6.

And a TL-Type S with the 3.7 v6 / black tinted red tail lights gets waaaaaay more looks.

^^This. Not that many people have preludes, and they're not easy to find. I would bet m3's are pretty easy to find. If you don't want a unique car, go bmw, and good luck with everything. Make sure you sell your lude to someone on here tho.

x2
I never understand why people say a FWD car is not a real car, Spend some quaility time building it and it will smash any RWD v6 v8 and all that stuff.
