No torque at low rpm

I realize that having an Auto is already bad but I am noticing that I have hardly any torque between 1000 and 2000 rpm. This makes it annoying to start after stops unless I floor it. This is happening even when I am in manual mode.

The only engine mods I have done are as follows.
Removed all stock intake parts and capped off vacuum line at intake manifold that fed to solenoid located under the stock intake pipe (just next to battery)

I have installed new plugs and gapped at .44 with a wire gapper.

I do not have any misfire issues nor idle problems

Recently I removed the valve cover gasket and painted it. When I tried to put the PCV valve back on, I had some trouble with now old pvc grommet but I did get it in. If somehow the pcv valve is stuck open, I assume I would have a lean situation and idel problems right? Just guessing since I did move it when I did the work and may have done something.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Rice......

Re: No torque at low rpm

You can check the PCV valve by carefully blowing air into it with a compressor.... or your mouth (little dirty, but wont kill ya)

Otherwise, our cars lack tq. Don't expect to be thrown back in your seat or to feel the car take off with it being stock, besides an intake. The stock motor mounts take away a lot of that feel when stepping on the gas - which is just a very small factor when it comes to the big sum up of: our cars are slow. Our powerband is in the higher RPM's anyway. It's disappointing how slow they are off the line.

Using the SS isn't really the best idea... but that discussion is for another thread/time. Just enjoy the car how it is, plan for a 5spd swap and being modifying the car, or get something else if you're looking to feel any "tq"

When was your last tune up? maybe a EGR cleaning will help. Check your spark plugs maybe it's a misfire.

I just bought the car a few weeks ago, I changed the plugs last week.

I will go buy an EGR valve gasket and check the valve.

Re: No torque at low rpm

Interesting about the alternator but I recently purchased a new battery for my 99 VW Passat, as soon as I came across my Prelude and decided to transfer the battery to my lude before selling the Passat. I am told that the battery I put in my Prelude actually puts out more amps than the one rated for it.

I'm going to check the cap and dist, wires and make sure I am not putting a load on the alternator having a larger battery. Still, how would a battery affect power?
