02 sensor help (no cats)

i recently bought a 97 prelude base. i just picked up a h22a jdm engine and lsd tranny with less than 5k on them. i ordered the megan racing headers with downpipe, neuspeed short shift kit, apexi ws2 catback exhaust. now with the headers, downpipe, and exhaust, i am not going to put cats on. i know that it will throw a check engine light, but no big deal to me, as long as it adds more power. i was thinking of replacing the 02 sensor anyways. is that recommended with a car with 175k on it? even if im not running cats, do i still need to hook up the sensor? will my exhaust setup fit without cats? i am looking for all the information out there, so please give me your insights. thanks

Header - just 1, we don't own Subaru's....

You won't gain more power by going cat-less. It's been tested time and time again that on daily use, it's pointless. You may see a gain when at the track in short runs but that's about it.

Straight pipes just add more noise and make your car smoke due to no cat.

you will need a straightpipe to replace the cat if you choose to not run one.

I suggest just getting a free-flowing cat. otherwise you can do an o2 sensor bypass... it basically gives a false signal. i'm personally not a fan..

unless you own a straight up race car, catless is just retarded. i have a magnaflow hi flow cat. just get one yourself

Agreed no cat is just louder and covers the back of your cat in exhuast soot. only reason not to have it is because you want to be different and illegal.

Re: 02 sensor help (no cats)

You can run the cats with a turbo and it won't hurt daily driving and if you want a little more power out of it at the track and have a little extra cash get an electronic exhaust cutout before the cats it keeps you legal solves the soot problem and you get just a wee bit more power at the track personally i would keep the cat unless its goin to be a trailer baby

Re: 02 sensor help (no cats)

thanks for everyones input. do you think that this all should bolt right up? everything was for a 97 prelude.
oh, and i am also replacing the o2 sensor before the cat.

Re: 02 sensor help (no cats)

Megan header is no different than stock. No gains to be had - it's the same header just without the extra brackets for the heat shield.

If you unfortunately purchased one - make sure you ordered one for whichever your car is (there is a difference between a Base header and an SH header)

If you purchased a direct bolt up Catalyst converter - than yes, everything should bolt up without an issue. If you did not purchase a direct bolt up cat, you will need flanges welded on.
