Trade a 5th Gen for a 4th Gen?

So I am looking for a 5th Gen, mainly because I want airbags and tiptronic. Would any of you trade a 5th Gen for my stock 4th Gen? (Just out of interest.)

It is a 1992 2.2L Si-VTEC (BB1) w/

Traction Control, Four-Wheel Steering, Limited Slip Diff, Cruise Control, Clean paint (no rust), Auto Trans, Japanese Import w/ most JDM options, 100% stock with 137,500 KM's on clock.

Damn, really? I was banking on some clutchless sport-shifting action!

learn to drive a stick. Plus, if you become good enough or know someone who is really good, ask them about a shift point on a manual car with out using the clutch. I know an older man who works for a rental company that works with honda and he can do it.

I can drive a manual but I just find it a hassel when I am driving around town. So I drive an Auto but when it is time to open the engine up around the mountains I do miss changing the gears manually.

So that is why I thought tiptronic would yeild the best of both worlds. :)

SO did I. The later ones (2000-2001) had pretty much ironed all the problems out. Mine's a 2000 and I"ve done 105,000km and had no troubles, but I've heard of 98 models being through 3 trannys by that stage.

I've got an SS VTi-R and use the tiptronic setup daily. I miss a manual car but at the same time enjoy this in traffic. I am now considering either a manual gearbox mod or to buy another Prelude, in manual trim.

I must say the ratios are very long on the auto, after all its only 4 gears. You will battle to keep up with most cars, I was behind a Golf GTi and for laughs wanted to stick on its tail.

So he downshifted, I was in 3rd... he pulled and I wanted to do the same. Revs were at 4000rpm, tried shifting down knowing i'd be way into VTEC and hitting limit very soon - BUT - the SportShift did not allow me. Flashed the current gear indicating it would be risky. NICE.

So I put foot in 3rd, the car took way too much time to pick up speed - when I eventually hit 5300rpm when things start taking off... The Golf GTi was already 400m - 500m in front of me. No hope of catching him.

From rolling start pushing through every gear will be the only way you can really take on anyone in this auto.

Other than that - if you are just doing your daily driving, nothing fun... the auto is perfect ;)

So is the tiptronic really worth selling / trading up my 4th Gen for? (I don't really want to ditch it, I mean it's a BB1!)

Not really. Keep in mind that while you're going to a car with a better chassis, you're also picking up some extra weight. Couple that with the b/s gears that Honda put in the ss autos (I can vouch for nitrogen's story, I have the same problems!) and you'll probably be dissapointed.

Get 5 spd if you trade. Beside the auto problems, autos are just boring.
