Icon5 Lude Stops Running

(Day before this all happened the car was running perfectly fine and no problems.) I drove about 5 miles yesterday (on the highway) and while i was sitting at a stop sign my lude shut off...figured i acdientally stalled it, i started it up and went on my way, about a minute later it started dying and i pulled over to check the car...sat for about 5 mins started and drove for about 4 minutes , starts back firing (which it's never done before) and it dies again...sat for 10 mins started it and was one my way...while trying to start i got a blue flame out the exhaust...drove another 2 mins dies again....sat for 15 mins and barely made it home before it died again....started it today and it ran for 10 mins no problem....test drove it made about 5 miles and it started to die. All i have done to the car is and intake and cat back. i'm not a complete idiot...i know a car needs fuel, air and spark to run...defintly getting air tho. I borrowed a fuel pressure test kit from my tech so i could check that but i'm not sure how to preform one on my lude. so i'm suspecting a clogged fuel filter. any ideas? anything will help greatly. thanks.

Check timing, maybe the belt jumped a tooth. When was the belt replaced?

Re: Lude Stops Running

Belt was replaced about 4k ago. I did a fuel pressure check at the rail and it's within spec...but that was just with the car on...i don't have the right fittings to check the fuel pressure while it's running tho.

Re: Lude Stops Running

Well the fire from the exhaust would be too much unburnt fuel making through the exhaust. Sounds like it could be an ignition problem. Like Vtec99 said, check cap and rotor, and other ignition components.

ignition relay. take it to the dealer and see if the recall has been done on it yet. that is if it's a 5th gen.

Well my dad went and bought a new fuel filter because he swears that's what it is...i'm gonna replace it tomorrow and we'll see if it helps. If i remove the cap and or rotor will that mess with my ignition timing?

Re: Lude Stops Running

get it checked for the ignition relay recall. pretty sure if not positive that's your problem. even if it isn't it's gonna go bad at some point and it's free to get fixed, that's why there is a recall for it.

Re: Lude Stops Running

Have you even checked to see if your gettin spark? Pull a plug out put a wire on it and lay the sparkplug on the motor and crank it over. I didnt see on any of your posts that said you have checked to see if your getting spark. So what i mentioned would be an easy way to see if your getting spark. Do it for each of your cyclinders before you go and rip out your dizzy and replace parts that may not need to be replaced.

Re: Lude Stops Running

I've checked spark and i'm getting spark but it may not be enough...i'm not sure...i could grab a spark plug tester from my tech and check it with that....thanks for input...It's just weid that it doesn't do it when it first starts...only after about 10 mins of driving.

Do you think it's just over heating cause you don't have enough coolant or your coolant line are clogged. Idk just a thought my old car did the same thing.

Re: Lude Stops Running

not over heating because gauge is normal when this happens. i scanned it today with the scan tool from tech and got a few codes. 1 for top dead center noise, another for noise, v-tec code (which it had awhile ago) fuel and air metering code. i drove it today and right when the problem happens is 3 k. no more no less...as soon as i hit 3k it just starts bouncing the rpm's between 2900 and 3500..until i let off and shift....i got new plugs and cleaned the cap and rotor before i did any test driving so i know that didn't help...it was idleing fine in the driveway then started to sputter and act like a miss fire then just shut off and wouldn't restart for about 5 minutes.

I got a code for Intake air temp sensor 1 circuit-high input, Manafacture controlled fuel and air metering. I wondering if there is a bad sensor and it is adjusting the air fuel ratio and it's killing the engine (Like having a choke on). Any thoughts or input???
