help with my vtec !

Ok so yesterday as I was driving I needed to pass someone and noticed my vtec didn't kick in. I tried again and it barley kicked in at 5800 which is not normal for stock h22a4. Then I tried again and it like sort of kicked in at 6200. After I tried again it didn't kick in at all and very bad burning smell.. no codes though. Which again is not normal. I did an oil change about a month and and I don't have any leaks but I tried that nexgen recycled oil for the first time. What could be the problem !?

Re: help with my vtec !

The correct way to check oil is when the car has been off for hours right? Its been off over night and I haven't started it yet. I checked my dipstick and its completly dry. I checked it the correct way right?

supposedly they use that next gen oil in race cars, so it's probably something else. pcv valve ok? used 5w-30?

it you're not leaking it, you're burning it...

I love reading comments of exasperation, because I can emphasize them in my head any way I want, and it's funny.

Glad you figured it out, hope your car is OK.

if it matters, i thought i'd throw in my .02...
I ve been told never to add oil to a hot engine, u can shock the cam or spring etc, it lands on i assume... that is all, glad u are back to VtaKiN!
Maybe change your filter again, it may have gotten sludgy..

I never add oil to a hot engine because H22s seem to get hotter than the sun's core, and I'm not playing it's stupid games and getting burnt. LOL

F-CK the world, it's your car. I hate that hippy-dippy bullsh!t and carbon footprint nonsense, While these same hipster rejects purchase Apple products made in china by newborn babies, and blog about it on their IPAD2.

Do you and get good oil off the bat. When recycled oil is free (cause shops charge me to change it, and accept it for free when I DIY) MAYBE it'll find its way into my engine [/end troll]

WTF! Not starting the car over a night and having no oil on the dipstick means your oil is near bone dry. I wanna guess and say you either had less than a quart or none at all. Your lucky as hell that the car still runs. And your oil level should be right at the 2nd mark on your dipstick even after your engine is warm. I should know, i do oil changes on acura's and hondas all day.. PM me if you want any more info.

Re: help with my vtec !

I get so paranoid when I check the dipstick and its 1cm over empty let alone 2 quarts down lol, If you just did your oil remember these engines take over 5 quarts, a 5 litre container barely got mine to halfway on the dipstick.

Check it cold or 10 mins of it sitting on a flat surface.

He could potentially not have any leaks it may just be cause he has a h22

Re: help with my vtec !

u may want to read up a bit before doing a full synthetic change there budz...
u may want to do that compression test too (since you're feeling all spendy) just to make sure u didnt damage any seals etc... they may turn brittle and hard and that ish is just irreversible
I've currently got about 314,000Km on mine and i SWEAR by this lubricant VVV

used it for 6 months at least by now and till i rebuild, it's all i'll use.

Absolute poppycock and rubbish. I'm surprised that myth still floats around.

It's half right; You don't want the caked on carbon crap in the engine breaking up and blocking passages and falling into the oil pan. I'm not saying it will happen, but for the sake of status quo, leave fill up the engine, and start looking at Motor flush kits.

The flush will mess with any seals that aren't up to specs.

That flush is a great idea, synthetic is a very high detergent oil...
I myself have to do a bunch of reading up on oil, im so immersed in brakes and suspension now, that i know nothing of oil, yet.. Thanks Phantom, I think....
I guess it is a myth, 5w30 is always gonna be 5w30..
