Serious business here

Im trying to find the most cost efficient way of maintaining my transportation. I have a 98 SH, but the motor is on its way out (Rod Knock) I stopped driving her, drained the oil and found metal shavings in the pan.

So now im trying to gather whats the most cost efficient route for me to take. Im a 22 year old college student so the money is not flowing out of my pockets.

Do I rebuild the motor, buy a new motor, sell my lude(would kill me on the inside), or buy a new car?

I should mentiom that I did the Head Gasket, Timing Belt, Clutch, Flywheel, Waterpump, and all other maintanence around 5k miles ago.

Re: Serious business here

you need new engine there... so sell the car or sell just the engine if you wanna keep it. then you could start saving money to new engine

until you have the money you can always do biking or get that scooter

personally Id sell that car if I was you and the money situation would be tight and then maybe one day get another when I can affort it

you dont absolutely need a car, its just habit.

^^ this ^^

a motor swap is a thousand times easier than rebuilding a motor, especially if your doin it yourself. if you have basic hand tools, some other somewhat mechanically knowledgeable friends, you can do a motor swap in a long weekend.

Re: Serious business here

My concern with a new motor is trying to find a SH block.

U dont HAVE to. Yes its recommended to do that. But no, u do not have to. The motor will run without replacing all the seals and everything.

Re: Serious business here

Follow jersey shore guy with STI, if you have a night light / garage light, much shorter weekend. Oh yeah....

yeah but it might leak oil from everywhere too (and it might have god knows how old timing side) - its much easier to new everything when the engine is out
