Engine power issue

I have a 97 base 5 speed. when im driving without actually stepping on it, it feels underpowered up until 3k rpms. then it jumps and has its power, it does this in all the gears. ive heard that the tranny adjusts to the way you drive and ive been kinda beating on it since i bought it, any ideas why its doing this?

Re: Engine power issue

Our cars don't have much low end power to begin with, doesn't sound any different than mine. Just makes sure the maintenance is up to date

sparkplugs, cap/rotor, sparkplug wires, oil change, clean air filter, fuel filter etc

Re: Engine power issue

Well that bit of extra info would've bee nice in your first post. - just for future reference, give all the information relating to your issue so it can be addressed properly.

Is your car an auto or 5spd?

Are you SURE there are no CEL codes currently in the system?

Are you using 92 octane?

Have you done your typical maintenance - let alone check the spark plugs/cap and rotor?
