Steering wheel noise

I noticed that the steering wheel makes a weird sound when I turn it in either direction. I checked to see if it was low on PS fluid. It was below the bottom line. So I put some of Honda's PS fluid in and filled it to the top line, but it still continues to make a sound like "unnnnnnnnn". Sorry, I ain't good at describing the sound.

Re: Steering wheel noise

a video would help. but even when the pump is on its way out, its way out it will make that noise. regardless of the fluid level. if you can't get a video of it, one way to check is take the PS belt off and drive around and see if it makes the same noise. if it doesn't, it's your pump.

Re: Steering wheel noise

just sounds like you may need a new p/s pump man the pump will always have a whine when slightly turning depending on how loud it is can tell if its going bad or not sooner or later the pulley will lock up but luckily the p/s pump is powered by its own belt so it wont break you down or naything. if it were to happen...

Re: Steering wheel noise

Well, when I jacked it up on stands. The noise went away, unless I turned it all the way, until it doesn't go any more. Is there any links on replacing it?

Re: Steering wheel noise

the reason it went away is bc there was no load (weight of cars plus wheels on ground) it required the pump minimal effort to turn the tires. as far as to your question i havent seen any serious write ups as to switch this but ive taken mine off numerous times and replaced the belt twice its very simple and believe you have what it takes just to tackle this one. give it a shot man.

Re: Steering wheel noise

I'm buying a used P/S. I have the service manual on it. Before I start tomorrow with the installation. It talks a few things and it kinda confuses me (btw I am not a mechanic, but I'm trying to learn to replace the stuff myself (stuff that are easy)). Correct me wherever I am wrong.

Do I just remove the bolt holding the pump and that will loosen the belt. Do I do the same when trying to put the belt back on, but backwards? It says plug the hoses. What do I exactly plug them with? Towels? Do I need any other parts before I put it on?

Re: Steering wheel noise

I do have a noise like that when I first start it up and the first turn I make but after that it goes away. Is my pump going bad too?

Re: Steering wheel noise

I've had a previous 5th gen owner tell me that it was going out, when he was teaching my how to drive my car (was learning manual).
