Big breaker bar.. probably with adding a cheater bar on it. wouldnt use less then a 1/2" drive or you'll probably break it..

Bozinga!

Back to the original thread, are you just trying to remove just the boots or or take out the entire half-shaft? I think the shaft just pulls out.

Re: Still can't get my axle nuts off!!!!

i couldnt get mine with a breaker bar one time so i went and got a twin hammer torque gun w/ 700lb. you urself can deliver way more lbs. then a gun but i believe its the jerking motion of the gun that gets it off, and you cannot really replicate that jerking back and forth motion w/ a bar...IMO. and have ur brakes pressed down.

but yea what are you working on???? if its just suspension sometimes u can get away w leaving the axle nuts on

Re: Still can't get my axle nuts off!!!!

I had to cut mine off with the torch once. Very precise enough to pry it apart and off

If they split, it'll be easier to replace the entire shaft. Plus, if you've been driving around with them torn, chances are dirt and crap has found it's way inside and will soon destroy the joints.

Replace entire shaft, avoid future headache. Profit.

Brand new CV axles cost me 70$ a pop. Around the same time an axle rebuild kit cost 40-50$ per axle... Easier to just buy new axles...

^^ this ^^

if your boots are torn, its 1000 times easier just replacing the entire axle than rebooting it. rebooting is a messy, greasy, slippery PITA
