first time at the drag strip

So i took my lude to the drag strip for test and tune. In Denver CO were at about 6000ft above sea level. I have minor bolt ons, exhaust, intake etc...I ran a 17.8 and an 18.0. Would having 18 inch wheels like mine be doin a noticeable amount of damage to my power? How bout the cat converter? Any suggestions to go a wee bit faster??

Re: first time at the drag strip

eww... 17.8? i thought i was running slow on bald tires, spinning off the line and running mid to high 15's

how were you launching? and yes, 18's are a lil big for drag.. I used my stock 16's and was looking into 15's or 14's(if even possible) for some drag tires..

they weren't DESIGNED for straight line speed, such as camaro's, mustangs, etc. were more geared towards that.
they were designed more towards handling obviously. yours is just an exception

Re: first time at the drag strip

I was dumpin the clutch at about 4k rpm. I think its mostly the altitude. I was just in south Dakota last week and it was so much faster down there!

Re: first time at the drag strip

Yea altitude does play a huuuuugeee difference in track times and engine performance.

surprisingly, i wanna say 16-17 seconds is about normal for a bolt-on H22 in denver.

also, if you do happen to have your stock 16's, not only will they be lighter, but also the bigger profile tire will aid in traction, as opposed to low profiles.

Re: first time at the drag strip

Don't dump your clutch either. Feather it on launch. It burns your clutch up, but fuxk it, you're racing. You don't want to be spinning the tires. I raced a big Cummins diesel that ran a 14.6 on the 1/4 and I outran him in my 4G H23 with my girlfriend in the back seat and my fat ass friend in the front last season.

Spinnin' ain't winnin'!

Re: first time at the drag strip

I'm at a little over 5K here dude and I couldn't get better than a 16.2 on my first time. I'd say those 18's probably don't help, spinning doesn't help...what was your reaction and 60-ft times?

I'm out for some hatch azz. There's a couple of SRT's running around here too that I have been waiting to run into but haven't yet. Can't wait to see the look on their faces when the Prelude walks away from them.

Any car is a drag car if you want it to be. As far as that goes cars were not intended from the factory to be "drag" cars were they?

BTW, you sir have some nice wheels

Not that this is relevant, but since I've seen a few people bragging about times... My subie runs a 13.4 in the 1/4.
