Block safe for a turbo build?

I have a h22a block with 174k on it planning on buildings he motor to go boost. Was going to have the block punched 40 over and get some low compression pistons. Is the block safe to use?

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

Just make sure you sleeve it. Preferably with iron sleeves.

Nahhh, I'd prefer to see how he's gonna bore out an FRM-sleeved block

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

I know it needs sleeved. Planing on having it done next weekend. The h22 stock nickle and silicone walls can't hold up to the pressure. It's just an optical illusion they look sleeved but they really aren't. Any idea whatnot how low of compression pistons oli should run?

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

Who even said you need lower compession?
I'd contact your tuner to see what he feels safe tuning.

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

I already have and he suggested going with lower compression pistons (forged) and some stronger rods. I'm trying to use all my resources. My tuner specialize in h22 and h23 motors. Just trying to get other opinions on what stuff is true and what I don't need

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

I think it's good to get more then one opinion especially when you're going to spend the kind of money that is involved in a turbo build. Sometimes tuners and mechanics will recommend stuff just to make some more money instead of what is necessary. I see lots of H22 turbo builds as low as 8:1 but the majority I see is 9:1. Check out some of the build threads on various sites and PM the guys who have done it. That would be your best bet.

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

If you are not going to resleeve with cast iron, you can only over bore .25MM (0.010 ie 10 over) 40 over is too large with FRM. If this guy specializes in H series motors he should know this. I would not trust the guy.

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

Re: Block safe for a turbo build?

you should step back and do some research before spending your money. The more you know, the better off you'll be.
