All Motor H22a4 build

I recently stripped down my entire head and block from my old h22a4 motor and want to start rebuilding it as an all motor build. The original owner of the car melted a piston so i will be putting all new parts in. I want to make around 250-300 HP with the engine and was looking for some options. I work at a shop and my father is a mechanic so i will be doing alot of the work myself. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: All Motor H22a4 build

Well i already have a rebuilt tranny with all new bearings in it and a quaife LSD so my tranny is set. As for the engine im sending it out to be cleaned shortly and when it comes back i will start rebuilding it. Is there a huge need to raise the compression more on my block?

Re: All Motor H22a4 build

Finally! i have been waiting for someone to do a full build on the H22a4. Everyone usually does the JDM H22A or the H22A1 but hardly ever do the H22a4. Cant wait and will be following this thread for sure.

Re: All Motor H22a4 build

I'll give you my whole parts list if you want so you'll have an idea of what kind of cost is involved with all the performance parts. It's a pretty aggressive build for N/A, about all I can do without resleeving the block and doing some custom modification to it, but 250 at the wheels? I'll be lucky for 210. Mind you, the stock H22 for me here at 5000ft elevation did 150 at the wheels. At sea level I'd imagine it to be 220-230 after I'm done. I don't know what it'd do stock at lower elevation..

You'll need parts.... that do things... You honestly need to search around and figure this one out on your own.

Expect to replace every internal part of your motor and sleeve it. - and yes, you'll want higher compression

Patience searching for good deals... i've seen all the parts i want for my future build for 100's off list price due to vender discounts and for sale threads - no used parts, all new. It can be done for less if someone doesn't want to just throw money at a shop. (which it seems OP is willing to do some work himself)

I know. That's why I'm careful to say 'I'm doing all this _____, but only getting that xxxHP out of it'. Back when I was naive, I thought of Hondas as $1500 and BAM I'm hittin' 12's. Then I bought a Prelude and got figuratively sodomized by the realization that not all Hondas are as cheap as Civics.

What if I was to go with a turbo build? Could I get away with throwing some 9.0:1 je pistons and crower rods in the block and resleevig it and not touching the head?

Re: All Motor H22a4 build

With boost, you could hit 250whp with about $3,500, stock block. How long that stock block will last tho, is another question tho.

If you wanna do it the right way and build the short block (I'm assuming an H block) with forged internals, add another 2,500-3000. That's without touching the head, which I feel isn't really necessary until over ~350whp

I am hoping to make 250 whp on some sort of race gas, and 240 whp on everyday ethanol (E85). And I will have less then 2500 dollars in my h22..

Of course I do go through motovicity at our shop, their deals are crazy good. And I got my ITB's for free, and I am building my own header. That saves a bunch.
