Re: Big compression problems

Well everyone is going to tell you to do a leak-down. So you would need to do that. Also, why are you checking the compression? Is the car running bad/not running at all? What caused it to behave the way it is? We would need more to the story to be able to help you out.

Re: Big compression problems

What is the leak down test I have heard of ppl doing them but have never seen one done. And I actually just got the car Friday and it was running rough so I got it super cheap( to good to pass up) this is my second prelude. I though it was an o2 sen. But i had them checked and they are all good. The story behind the car is that it was a friend of mine. And he went to the gas station after work an fille it up with gas. He was about 15 miles down the road and it started missing and running like ****. He said it went into limp mode and was stuck in limp. I trailered it home Friday and started it and it isn't in limp mode just runs really rough.

Re: Big compression problems

A leak-down test is usually a followup test after you check compression. If you have bad compression numbers, generally air is leaking from somewhere, causing you to not build up compression in a cylinder (low compression reading). In a nutshell, a leak-down test involves pressurizing a cylinder with air from an air compressor, and listening to find out where air is leaking from: air from intake/exhaust would be valves/seals, bubbles in radiator would generally be a head gasket, and air coming from the oil dipstick or crankcase would indicate bad rings. There are gauges out there that you use that indicate how much air leakage there is. I'm sure there are write-ups on how to perform a leak-down test here on the forums.

Back to your situation. If it happened after he filled up, it almost sounds like bad gas. But since you have really low compression in cylinder 2, and unequal around the horn, it sounds like something else is going on. Either that, or like another member was having problems with is his injector was sticking, causing it to flood a cylinder (and cylinder #2 for that matter!) LINK HERE: multi misfire. Are you throwing any codes (misfire codes, o2 codes, etc)? Check your plugs, cap, rotor, make sure everything looks good. Were your readings from right to left or left to right (right to left would be 1-2-3-4, left to right would be 4-3-2-1). Was the test done on a warm engine at wide open throttle, or cold? You could also do a wet test to see if the compression rises (squirt a little oil in the spark plug hole and retest, about a capfull).
