Firestone Champion Tires

Hello All,

I'm new here, been a long time lurker. I posted this in the review forum thinking maybe someone would have a review for it, but I guess that was a mistake.

I have a 97 SH with 17'' wheels on it and am in need of a new set of tires. I currently have the Khumo Ecsta ast on the car and it's not a horrible tire for the price, they've worn too fast and mostly the uneven wear. When I purchased my car a couple of years ago I put the tires on it right after getting all new shocks and springs (it was lowered and I hated it) and got an alignment so I doubt the uneven wear is due to the suspension.

Anyway, I can clearly find the Khumo's on sale and cheap but wouldn't mind against a new tire. I did some research and found the Firestone Champion HRs and they have the buy 3 get 1 free deal. I'm sure it isn't a spectacular tire, but I need it for daily driving, not track. The only problem is I cannot find a single review on the tire. Whenever I look, it's always general reviews about Firestone and/or a certain service center.

Anyway, thanks for any information.

Re: Firestone Champion Tires

Welcome to Preludezone. Off the bat, I can pull up threads against any tire, this one came out too easy.
Firestone Complaints, Reviews - Champion HR = horrible tires

I searched for local stores in my area and found them only at Firestone stores, so That makes me a little uneasy, mostly they control the price of the tire, and can pump up the cost of the three tires to cover the fourth. Overhead sucks.

I'm also worried because I have never heard of these tires before. I know the firehawks, the bridgestone counterparts Potenza / pole position, suv tires. I'm biased though because I stay away from Bridgestone/Firestone, because they got caught selling 2-3 year old tires as brand new stock (tires can't be sitting around forever).

Anyhow, I would go General, Continental, Pirelli (they give out a gift card now and then) or, Yoko's, Toyo's. The little you're saving now might cost you big time down the road.

Re: Firestone Champion Tires

Thank you all for the responses.

I went in to Firestone and asked the guy point blank even about them and he never once answered my question. Just kept trying to point me to his quite expensive tire lines and I just left.

I went around town getting quotes yesterday and looking at tires.

After finding many reviews that were almost all positive, I think the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is what I'll go with. It appears to be everything in a tire. I know it won't last 80,000 miles, but I don't plan to keep my Prelude that long! Plus, they're running $80 back on a set of 4.

I once again thank you all for your help! I probably should post pictures of my car here... but the only ones I have are a couple of years old when my poor car was still super lowered and had shot shocks.
