H22A4 Rebuild and mod

My H22 is burning oil badly and from what everyone ive talked to has told me I have oil blowing past my rings and my valve seals are shot. I am going to completely rebuild but I figured while I was doing that I would build the internals as well to get some good horsepower. What route should I go? I want to make some good power. What are my best options and any links to parts in order to pick up some horsepower?

Well for now do you think I can pick up some horse power with high compression pistons, shaving the head as well as having it ported and polished?

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

Id say not much.

try to think your engine as a whole, lots of things have to work together... changing just one thing doesnt effect that much...

like

you have to have have good air filter and intake that your intake manifold can get air. you have to have good intake manifold that there goes good amount of air to the head. when you get enough air you have to get enough fuel too - bigger injectors. you have to have better cams and higher compression that the improved air/fuel mixture gets used properly. now when the combustion is better you have to get better header that exhaust gasses can exit properly and then you have to have good exhaust system that the gasses flow out smoothly.
and then you have to make your ecu understand all of these things!

I picked up this car for $2800. The body is in great shape and the interior is mint. I dont want to get rid of it. I want some added horsepower at a decent price.

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

well do you have extra ~650$ for new pistons?

notice that you have to new all the seals/gaskets what there is and take your head to the machine shop
do the timing belt things again etc

do you work? do you need you car daily? ...its pretty hard to give advice when I dont know your money situation

is your car base or sh?

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

Personally Im going from a shell to a running na car I have type s pistons, a fine hone, port and polish, balanced rods pistons and crank,bc type 1 cams valves and retainers, eagle rods, Kaizen speed tensioner, custom intake manifold, tb, intake, full exhaust, msd, ngk plugs and wires and some other little things grand total off the top of my head prob 3K in parts some i got great deals on through buddies and thats not including having to pay for it to be installed because my buddy and me are doing it you can prob add another 2K for install at a shop. Check out the 5th gen parts guide and the building an NA motor thred under 4th gen. Thats just me and my 2 cents. You also need to look at up grading clutch fly wheel breaks suspension to be able to get the power to the ground. If you just want to dump so dough into and get some added bump do I/H/E and let it cruise, best recomendation unless you have money time and a second car.
*After thought dont forget a tune & fuel- rail, injectors, regulator, pump

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

Im a freshman in college, and work roughly 40 hours a week. I make maybe $1000 every 2 weeks. Its a 1998 Prelude H22A4 base model 5 speed. I should be getting a set of tein full adjustable coilovers next week. I drive my car daily for work and school. But if needed I have access to another car to drive.

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

this could be good opportunity to tear whole engine apart and build it back together with aftermarket parts, but of course you cannot then use your car and it costs a lot if youre going to make this build

around 5000-6000 youll get nice NA car ...so you have to manage without your lude couple months

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

People who ask what to upgrade shouldn't be upgrading. Way too much information. Ask Google, he's your pal. You won't be making much power on a budget. You'll pay out the ass for little mods here and there that really won't do **** compared to their price.

I think im just going to do a full oem rebuild to do it cheap. Ill put my money now into looks and suspension. I figure ill just pick up another H22 and build that then swap it into my car.

Re: H22A4 Rebuild and mod

Maybe some BC cams, different valves and seals, High compression pistons etc but your not going to see big gains. and if your a daily driver and like to rev your car up, after market engine parts will just shorten the life of you motor. Its all up to you, and you need a lot of research time.

Complete oem rebuild, buy my type s pistons and rings i have for sale, and save the rest of your money for maintance, do research, save, and when you get enough youll be ready to do a build all by yourself, and you will get the most satisfaction out of it as you will know your car inside and out
