Cant take off Crankshaft pulley!!

So my timing belt gave out on me while I was entering my drive way around 3-4pmh I dont know much of mechanics but been learning as Ive been fixing the prelude. Im at the stage where I have to remove the crankshaft puller but it seems i dont have clearance to pull it out. Would I have to lower the engine a bit to yank it out? I already bought the hex tool at honda too to keep the engine at TDC

Re: Cant take off Crankshaft pulley!!

Don't worry, there's enough room. The crankshaft only protrudes about 1", so you only need to pull it out ~1".

Depending on which tool you have, you probably have to drop the engine, or lift the body. I had to jack up the front of the car, place a jack and baffle under the pan, and another jack on the passenger side tow hook. Let it down gently, then jacked up the car using the driver side front lift point. Remove the side engine mount, then raised the body up an inch (engine drops) to be able to fit the crank pulley removal tool in the pulley.

EDIT: Just looked at the images... That belt is gnarly! I think you can get another year out of it...

Does a 3 jaw puller fit? we rent one at my work(autozone) though i don't know if it would clear in such a small area.

Re: Cant take off Crankshaft pulley!!

thanks guys for the input, I was actually able to remove the crankshaft pulley after loosening the nut bolt. It was reallly tight to remove it but it slipped off eventually. though I ran into a problem now trying to change the timing belt, I remove the covers and I find that one of the levers seems to be broken :S is this fixable or am I screwed??

$16 on Amazon, same exact thing. Used it twice already (well 4 times, twice to remove and twice to install). Will be using again after I pull the head this coming weekend.

I did the same exact thing. It's a bracket on the water pump. You should be replacing it now anyways since you're in there.

EDIT: Uploaded pics. This is my engine with my broken mount. (About a month ago)

This is after the conversion and water pump replacement. You can see, above the tensioner pulley, the mount is fixed. The hydrolic tensioner pulley bracket mounts to the water pump, which is a bad design. The water pump is just a cast piece, so it wouldn't take much for it to break. If you do the conversion, nothing will be bolted to that piece of the water pump.
