if that exhaust narrows to the cat its huge bottle neck right there,
no matter do you delete the cat or not

Re: Mugen Cat-Back Exhaust

I've been recommending twin loops for awhile, glad they are starting to catch on with everyone. It's going to sound great, and also if you have a couple extra dollars laying around I recommend spending just a few on an 18" resonator. It'll take some of the raspyness away (it'll sound like pure sex)

Also, I don't recommend you delete the cat. You will see MAX 1hp out of it, and there is no reason to dirty up our earth any more than it needs to be. While you say "Oh well I'm just one person, it doesn't make a difference" - It does make a difference, and it starts with 1. Please, keep the cat on, there is no benefit to take it off. You aren't starving for horsepower on a track car trying to squeeze every ounce of horsepower you can out of it, so there is no reason to get rid of it.

Good luck, hope the twinloop is everything you expected and more (and again you should take my advice about the resonator if you have a few $$ left over)

Re: Mugen Cat-Back Exhaust

Any specific brand of resonator I should look for?
I picked it up from King Motorsports, they had it in stock. King claims to be the only authorized Mugen dealer in the US... I dont know if thats true but they were the only one who didnt have to order it from Japan. Evasive Motorsports here in CA (not to far from me at all)said they had to order it from someone on the east coast (I think it was King..), but when I started asking questions the kid on the phone was rude and gave me attitude. I told him I was calling King Motorsports instead, and he told me Fuk You Then.. HaHa it was funy has hell. Anyways the rep at King was great and had me my pakage in 5 days.

lol....

You can go with any brand, it's pretty hard to fck up a resonator. Like UPSluder said Vibrant, or flowmaster preferably. Stick with brand names and no cheap ebay crap. Obviously the longer the resonator the better sounding it will be as well (it'll take the ricey raspyness sound out of the exhaust)

I believe they come in 12, 18, and 24 inch, maybe even longer. I don't think you'll have a need for a 24", I had an 18" with a n1 style muffler w/ silencer and it sounded great. I bet that twin loop is going to sound so good with that h22. You have to post a sound clip after you get it put on. Please.

Wow you know what, stupid me, I didn't even see your mugen comes with a resonator. Scrap the resonator idea, if it comes with one you definitely don't need to buy one.

I'm sorry I should have clicked the picture to zoom in before I went off on my resonator rant

Keep the set up you got there. If it comes with a resonator use it, if not definitely buy your own. that's a good set up for a cat back....

Re: Mugen Cat-Back Exhaust

Ignore lots of these guys telling you won't get any gains. Mugen makes high quality products. That will make you some HP gains. Especially since your running on a good header. expect to see 3hp-6hp with some tuning.

Re: Mugen Cat-Back Exhaust

^ mugen actually doesnt give that much compared to other aftermarket catback-systems since US mugens narrows to the cat.
IMO he should check this thing, and if it narrows, cut the narrowing part off and replace it with 60mm piping

We went over this previously and the slight narrowing is not enough to really make a difference in performance. Even if it does bottleneck it's a muffler. The parts that matter most are the header, collector, and piping size. The small difference at the end is not enough to make a drastic difference. I wish someone would post up dyno results with different diameter muffler piping. I can't tell you how many times I hear "It bottlenecks" or "the piping is smaller you won't get good horsepower out of it" - it's a muffler, he'll get .5hp out of it max.

Re: Mugen Cat-Back Exhaust

I wasnt expecting 20hp or anything. im not soo much after the hp more the sound. My header builder tells me i will get most gains with the header not the exhaust. The pipe does narrow at the cat. if its a huge deal i will cut it off and repace with correct size. but like Smok3y says i dont think its enough to make a big difference. its going in on Monday for the header and exhaust. i will post a sound video when i get it home.

Id vote - do it

do the things properly when youre doing them, its more efficient if whole piping is same size

think about this - if your new header have 2,5" collector and then you make pipe there to the mugen - 2,5" piping meets the 2", there is big difference and some of the exhaust gases meet the 0,5" wall/flange - not all of them flows smoothly right out, or then you have to make some choke-pipe part there

other way around its not that big deal from smaller to bigger
