Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

My headlights & taillights are leaking (noticed it before buying the car) so water vapor has been building up in them. I've noticed some people choose to stand OEM on them but I've also noticed some with aftermarket that are slightly different from stock.

The headlights types are very diverse in this group of Ludes. I used to have Halo Projectors in my Accord and I have to say, they were terrible and a major pain in the ass to adjust (had to use a vacuum system to adjust ).

I do like the OEM appeal on the tails but there are a few aftermarket ones that are similar.

Anyone have any opinions or personal experience on the matter? Also, what retailers do you guys trust for these components? I don't want to run into problematic lighting like I did on my Accord.

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

any depo headlights are good, just depends on what style you want.

get new tail light gaskets, I bet it fixes that problem (unless the lenses are cracked)

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

I'm a sucker for the OEM lights. If you have a problem with your lights now, you might be able to just go to a junk yard and pick up another set. Even if they are fadded from the UV light, you can still clean them up real nice. There's plenty of threads on the interenet that will guide you through the UV head light fixxer-upper. If you go through a junk yard and clean them you'll be saving a lot of money, and have a banging looking head light!

OEM taillights for sure.. As far as headlights go get a set of depo or OEM headlights or get a retrofit projectors depending on how much money you have to spend they are a few bucks more then stock

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

Yeah, I was definitely looking at just finding new OEM heads or depos. Are depos standard adjusting like OEM, no stuff like vacuum adjustments? Alright, just wanted to see if anyone has seen the tails that look nearly identical and see what was so special about them. Now to wait for a paycheck. -_-

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

Alright! So the search is on for OEM taillights, let me know if you know anyone looking to sell. And bmx is hitting me up with some goodies for the heads. Future retro though!

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

The tailights from ebay that look just like the oems? There's two different kinds on ebay the dull looking ones that match the oem ones and ones that have a deeper red and more shiney chrome I have the 2nd ones and their perfect for only 78 bucks. Fitment is perfect just a small gap from where the taillight bends and some people are big cry babies about that lol. No fogging up or moisture problems a lot of people say to silicone them up but I never did and many more rainstorms down the road never had a problem :) I'll post a pic hold on.

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

I got a couple different sets of aftermarket headlights for my Civic, and though I haven't bought new headlights for my Prelude (high on the list of to-do's) I wanted to offer this small piece of advice. On aftermarket headlights, especially eBay specials, run a thin bead of silicon along the entire perimeter of the lens to seal it. It only takes a couple minutes, but can save you a LOT of headaches in the future. Even though they may not leak, if they do, taking them out and drying them, then replacing the bulbs (for some reason they don't like getting wet) is a royal pain in the ***.

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

I got some new OEM headlights in much better condition than mine. I received them and noticed there's not upper mounting nuts on it as there are for the rest. I've been trying to contact him for about 1.5 weeks now with no response. This picture shows how both of the ones I received look like for the upper mounts. Is this an easy swap from the ones I currently have on the car or does it look like it's missing something? I don't want to get the car disassembled and all that just to look at this.

Re: Headlight & Taillight Recommendations?

You can switch the lenses to your original ones but you have to be very careful not to crack or melt you headlights. You have to heat them up in your oven and pry them a part. You should be able to run those fine without the top mounting point.

I can, but is there something missing there besides the metal clip nut, or can I just take the one off my current ones and put them on the new ones? It doesn't appear to have enough plastic available for one of those metal clip nuts to connect itself properly, hence my asking. The transaction I agreed upon was not for a "broken" product. Terms of sale were straight that these were perfectly conditioned lights. I have tried taking the current top bolt out to test the mechanical tolerance of the housin, and I would rather it be there since I paid decent money for them and was in good communication terms with the buyer prior to shipment.

You are missing the very top of the mounting tap so just taking the metal clip off you other lights won't work. You only have two options return the headlights for your money back if you can get the seller to answer you or switch the lenses to the other headlight with the good mounting taps. You could cut the taps off your other headlights and jb weld them onto the headlights with the broken taps but it would be hard to get them even and no telling how long it would last.
