Re: Maint for a 320k prelude

First Welcome to PZ!!

Second do you have any type of records? When you buy a used car, unfort the biggest issue is not knowing what happened before you got it. If you don't have service records make sure you assume that NONE of it was done. I would recommend having a mechanic look over the timing belt as that could be catastrophic and costly if broken (and not replaced previously)

Go by regular mileage intervals, but cover the big things as if they were never done (and the small things - oil and trans flushes, check coolant, belts, ball joints, tie rod ends, tire wear etc etc) as you again, never know what the lude had previously been through. By spending a little bit extra when you first get it, just to make sure the maintenance is up to date (especially with so many miles) you may be ensuring a few thousand extra miles before it decides to kick the bucket.

Also, I would look into a compression and leakdown test. It will tell you a lot about the condition of the motor. You can read the write up here in the write up section or google it if you are having a hard time finding it.

Re: Maint for a 320k prelude

I think its my first time to see a 300ish k 5th gen prelude. If no receipts or any maintenance history, then replace/fix it if you think that need to be fixed/repaired.

Pics. How no one asked about seeing a prelude that's seen so many miles?

Welcome to preludezone!

Re: Maint for a 320k prelude

Things you wanna look at:
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Spark Plugs and wires
Pcv valve
brakes and rotors
Thermostat
various hoses
Get you Cv axle looked at just to check to see if the boots are torn or not.
Their are more things too much to list.
Best of luck but expect for part likes the a/c compressor, thermostat, various sensors to go out on you since its just a high mileage car.
