Radiator Cap Help

Hey all...

Need some help from you experts, lol. I think I need to replace the radiator cap on my 5th gen, but when I went to Autozone to get a standard replacement, they looked it up (because I told them it was a stock radiator), and they gave me one that was too big. Not really their fault, as my buddy and I now believe that there may be an aftermarket radiator already on my car. I was told (when I bought it) that it was stock. So I was mis-informed, I think.

In any event... long-story short... I "think" I need a new radiator cap (as I've been experiencing some over-heating issues (I recently replaced a rotted heater hose, flushed and bled the system, but every once in awhile, the guage needle will slowly start to climb). My friend and I did a quick inspection of the cap, and we "think" that the cap is shot. I took a couple of pictures of it to help out. He seems to think there might be a washer and maybe one other piece missing. I honestly don't know, though.

What I'm trying to figure out is, and admittedly (and clearly) I'm a novice/newb in this, is what brand radiator this cap is. At first, I thought it was for an old-school Mishimoto radiator, because of the M on the cap, but then I looked online and found that their "M" is styled differently, I'm having my doubts.

Like I said... I'm a newb and humbly admit I don't know as much as so many others here on this forum. Any and all help will be appreciated, so be kind, lol.

Thank you guys, in advance.

Re: Radiator Cap Help

Looks like a factory or factory replacement radiator - that is not a factory cap.

Your thermostat could be going bad. But also- i believe there are 2 different caps for our stock radiators depending on which one you have (denzo or toyo*) - if i recall correctly...

Re: Radiator Cap Help

Your aftermarket cap is rated for .9 bar. The OE one is 1.1 bar.

Air pressure at sea level is 14.7psi. so
0.9 bar is 14.7 * 0.9=13.23 lb cap
and 1.1 bar is 14.7 * 1.1=16.17 lb cap

Just go to the dealer and get an OEM one. Look at your radiator first to find out which one you have (either Toyo or Denso) because the caps are different.

Toyo radiator cap is
19045-PCA-004 CAP (TOYO) $10.91

Denso radiator cap is
19045-PAA-A01 CAP, RADIATOR (DENSO) $8.43

Re: Radiator Cap Help

Wrong cap can cause issues, here's an idea, bring the cap inside the store and have them match it.
