Re: New engine replacement

Do a compression & leakdown test to see if any valves are bent.

Re: New engine replacement

thanks for the great tips guys, I was unable to do a compression test due to battery completely drained out. The lude has been sitting in the back for a week now. So in waiting for my friend to come jump start the lude, I took off the valve cover and discovered the timing belt to be shredded :S The car stalled just entering my driveway at 3-4mph do you guys think i have valve damage? Is there a way I can visually see bent valves since I have the cover off?

Re: New engine replacement

I'm not sure that I have been doing the leakdown test correctly. i follwed the link above for the DIY leakdown test thread, but couldn't access it because I haven't made a post yet. Hopefully this will be sufficient.

Re: New engine replacement

Since the belt shredded, more than likely your tensioner failed. Since your tensioner failed, more than likely you bent some valves.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined and can follow directions, rebuilding the head with new valves & valve seals could possibly be cheaper than buying a head replacement. Unless you get it some someone reputable or from a shop, you really don't know the condition of the head you are purchasing.

Re: New engine replacement

When my tensioner failed my belt shreaded too. I got lucky and had no valve damage. It gave out when i was doing like 5mph. You could be ok... May want to have someone that has some knowledge in mechanics take a look at it before buying a new head. Do a comoression test to be sure. May want to do the manual tensioner swap while your in there.
