just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

are the clips for it really necessary? They all pretty much broke when I took them out, and the one in the very center was stripped like hell so I just broke the top off to get the old grill off.

The grill is held on right now by the to left and right screws and 0 clips.

you guys think I need to get those clips replaced or should I be ok w/ just the 2 metal screws?

Re: just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

the majority of the clips on mine are either broken or missing as well, and it is holding up, those screws seem to hold it in place pretty well. although it will probably shake more and may not stay in the perfect position. i would just leave it and check it every once in a while to make sure the screws havent vibrated loose. it's not like a light where it is just gonna fall a=out real easily and it is pretty easy to notice if it is coming loose. if you're like me though i cant stand when something isnt installed the way it is meant to be, i just havent had a chance to pick up some new clips yet.

Re: just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

Are you referring to the plastic clips beneath the grill?

Just use the one screw on each side and 2 push in clips on the radiator support and you'll be fine.

Most prelude owners don't even know about those clips under the grill. - no idea how you broke yours... supposed to pull straight out when removing.

What has me curious is... you're saying the clips "stripped out" - there's nothing to strip since the ones under the grill slide into place. The only mounting hardware consists of (2) 10mm screws and the (2) push in pins on the radiator support.

Re: just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

the 2 push in pins from radiator support broke, and it's weird because with the 99-00 grill, it doesnt reach all the way to the back.

the stripped clip/screw im talking about is neither of the 4 you're saying. In the bottom middle portion of the grill there is a single screw/clip that holds the grill down for extra support. That's the thing thats stripped and I have no idea how to get it out of there. I'm thinking about drilling a selftapping screw+ washer in there.

Re: just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

reason why the 99+ grill doesn't sit flush on the 97-98 body is cause the front ends were pushed back some and the aerodynamics of the grill made it possible for that extra 5hp

Re: just installed my 99-01 grill..questions

Ohhh - forgot all about that center one (i can't use mine due to the cooling plate)

That center one is supposed to be a push pin as well. You can purchase all 3 push pins at your local dealership. Just drill out your center one/ remove it however you want.

The two screws on the side will hold the grill just fine. BUT - if you use the under side clips that are on the grill, this will reduce what little movement it will have. Basically remove the corner screws - and take the grill off. You'll notice that under it (ontop of the bumper) there's a very thin lip. To correspond with that lip - there are little pieces of plastic under your grill that slide into it. Slide the grill on from the front vs installing it from the top - you'll have to bow the corners where the screws go in to get it to slide in right. - that's how it sits factory and you won't really need the push in pins.
