Car died randomly while driving it...

So about 1 year ago I was driving like 30 mph and the car just turns off, no sounds no nothing. I pull over and try to start it. Starts fine but almost instantly just turns off again. No sounds or anything.
Well yesterday it happened again (had not happened in over a year)...you guys have any idea what this might be? Eventually it did start after about 5 tries. Hopefully it won't happen again and it was just a 1 time thing for a long time but who knows.

Any ideas?

Ignition switch recall, I'm guessing.

Re: Car died randomly while driving it...

Seeing as it is a recall does that mean they do it for free? Could I just take it to any honda dealer? If not what would it cost?

Re: Car died randomly while driving it...

Contact your dealer and ask about the recall. I believe it was 97-99 that had the recall, but the issue has happened in all years of the 5th gen.

If your car qualifies (i know for a fact 97-98 do no matter what, unsure about 99) have the car brought to the Honda dealership. If the car does not qualify (00-01) and you need the switch done, just purchase it - i know there's a writeup around that shows how to do it, but i'm sure you can figure it out.

Re: Car died randomly while driving it...

My car did this too on the way to Atlanta on the interstate, needless to say it was fun to be going 80 in the fast lane with IA traffic and then your car turn off. lol.

Re: Car died randomly while driving it...

mines a 99 and i got mine done about 2-3 months ago, so i can vouch for 99. just call your Honda dealer and get them to run your vin to see if it's been done. it's a recall so they will do it for free.
