New Member Here 2000 Prelude SH

Hey all,

The name's Mori. I recently picked up a Lude around town here in Ann Arbor, MI after my 96 Accord EX engine obtained a nice crack in the block seeping oil due to some crazy fast overheating on Saint Patties Day . My family has owned the Accord since 1998 and it has been everywhere with me. Anyways, I paid 2700 USD for the 2000 Lude SH at 111555 miles with a minor accident (small rear bumper damage), a rusted through spare wheel well due to a leak in the trunk gasket, wheel bearing, upper control arms, and some other small stuff I found during the inspection (looks like someone tried to break in at both driver and pass windows). It's been slightly modified by the only owner prior to me. DC header, catback, and AEM cold in intake, euro tailights, and some upgrades in the audio equipment. Thankfully nothing too modified. I've been looking around on this forum the last week and thought it had a good fellowship of people, so thought I'd join up.

I'll post some pictures up later today after work. Plans for it are to keep this car running and do some modifications soon. I was thinking of doing another carputer setup like I had in my Accord. Long term I plan on doing a full internals upgrade and to run a turbo, but that may be a few years.

Just for fun I took a motorcycle training class here (WCC BRC is a great place to take those classes) this last weekend and now I have my endorsement. Looking around at some CBRs but I will need to get some money saved up, so it may be awhile.

I just moved here after college 4 months ago so I'm looking for friends in the area. I plan on honing some fab skills at the local community college so I can get to know the work better. I'm a mechanical and electrical engineer from Kettering University. Will be a remote master's student through them later this year.

I'm done... I hope I enjoy my stay here and with my lude! Pictas later.

welcome to the site, can't wait to see pictures of the lude.
I got my motorcycle endorsement just over a year ago, and have been itching to get a CBR1000 ever since.

Me first. I will have one by the end of the year. It will be my first liter bike. I have had a few others but the CBR1000rr is the shiz.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have a bit of direction and a few goals, that's kind of refreshing and nice to here. Can't wait to see pics of your Prelude either.

Couldn't have said it better myself. One of the first things to go, once I find some stocks in a junkyard. I was thinking of keeping them out for an extra 2 weeks to fab some LED tails.

Yeah, I enjoyed their program. Let me know if you need help with anything. I worked as a research assistant there for a little over a year studying battery technologies in hybrid vehicles. The best education I could have asked for quite honestly. I'm on first name basis with most of the ECE department.

And yes I am currently in the process of removing that "carbon fiber" decals all over the control panels... -sigh- so tacky.

Is it actual carbon overlay or the vinyl stick-on stuff? I like the real carbon dash kits...

After I started to take them out it I realized it is the real carbon fiber overlays but the protective sealant on top was turning yellow/green so I'm still glad I was taking it out. I may make my own soon if I decide I liked it there more than not. I'll just use a varnish that doesn't turn colors.

Re: New Member Here 2000 Prelude SH

Those look like they're faux Kevlar overlays, as Kevlar has a tendency to be a goldish color.

Do you have any pics that show the difference between the two? Because I just bought a Prelude and it has similar decals like in the one pic in the OP's post.

Re: New Member Here 2000 Prelude SH

Anyone have any cool ideas on what to do with the spare wheel well? This one is rusted through in 3 spots and the rest has rust on it. I was thinking about cutting it out and welding in a box-like drop down in place and placing shock foam in it with cutouts for tools? I've wanted something like that in my accord for so long. I plan on getting a steal spare wheel and they are wider than doughnuts so it sits in the well with carpet awkwardly. Where else to put a full sized wheel... .hm.....

I just purchased a new Braille battery with mounting bracket and KnuConceptz amplifier wire kit to do a battery relocation (it's cheap EXTREMELY nice wire). I'm trying to find a purty killswitch right now. I have a 150 A Bussmann thermal circuit breaker that I could use, I guess.

I threw them away already >_<. I only noticed it after I started to take them out. I looked more closely at the sheet used and to me it looked like carbon fiber. I've worked with carbon fiber quite often and I hope I know what it looks like by now : p.

Unfortunately no, I think they are the stock SH wheels. I'm looking for a set of S2000 shoes though, so gorgeous.
