my 98 base rebuild/derice

Well I finally got the lude into the shop and got started on it a little today.

First off some pics to show what im starting with.

Thats the exterior, now here is the inside

And now the reason I got it for 1201.00

The only two positives it has going for it is the wheels and possibly the intake lol

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

Ok first step was to figure out exactly what was wrong with the motor. Turns out #4 rod blew up, crank actually still looks ok.

And I started trimming up the front bumper(temporary as I dont have a new bumper at this point.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

If it threw a rod with the engine running, there's no way in helllll the crank is still good.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

actually its weird, there is no scarring on the crank lol. but it trashed the cylinder sleeve cradle and baffle. The rod still spun on the crank easy and the bearing wasnt scared at all. I am a little baffled at how that could happen every time I have seen a rod break it has been due to lack of oil pressure and the rod blew and ground the crank to junk. If anyone knows how the f*** this could happen let me know lol. I think he was on the freeway and racing it and it just let go. Motor had either never been into or it was built by someone with honda experience because it had honda bearings still in it.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

Crank might be bent now. It will cause you more problems down the road. Get a new complete engine.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

Started pulling apart my old motor, got the clutch off. Its gonna need to be replaced so here is the updated plans at the moment.

50k motor from japan, with new tbelt, w/p manual tensioner conversion, all new seals and normal swap parts, new heater hoses while the motor is out and fuel filter(due to being so much easier to replace right now, all parts are already here except for my hoses, filter and motor lol. and swapping my oil pump out so I can keep my ckp sensor and everything in stock location.

new clutch, either a daiken/exedy stock replacement(I can get great deals on all stock parts and even some higher performance stuff), or possibly a stage 2 kit. just not sure which route to go since this will be my DD, instead of my tundra.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

Allright got the motor in and and running today. Tomorrow a little bondo work on the trunk due to some previous owner's fast and furious spoiler. Leaks water like a mofo. Then a wash job and new pics.

Re: my 98 base rebuild/derice

Motor ready to go back in.

Ricer spoiler holes all through the trunk

Ricer body kit holes in sides of rear quarter bondo'd up.

Trunk bondo'd up

ready for paint

Keep in mind this body work is only temporary to get it to where I am not completely ashamed to drive my lude. Next up on body work is replacing drivers fender, both bumpers, and side skirts
Next up is some interior work radio, new speakers and my new clock/vents/hazards, Thanks to 97_vtechsh on those.

I think they are apc or something like that I am sure you can find a set. only problem is you have to put up with the needles having to be removed I belive to install them but they do look good at night. unfortunatly whoever installed the ones that are in my car screwed up my gauges so my fuel gauge doesnt work right, and my tach and speedo gauge both stick.
